ABC has confirmed that divorce comedy Splitting Up Together has been renewed for a second season.
Thanks in part to the tremendous Roseanne halo, Splitting Up Together was afforded great sampling for an off-brand, spring-premiering comedy. Though the series has come back to Earth a bit since its premiere, it still has solid non-linear numbers and retention from Black-ish, which makes its renewal deserved. What remains to be seen is whether ABC leaves it at 9:30 so they can launch a new 10:00 show or tries to grow the show through a time slot upgrade.
From Emily Kapnek (Suburgatory), Splitting Up Together follows Lena (Jenna Fischer) and Martin (Oliver Hudson), a divorced couple who still live in the same house due to financial constraints. By staying in close proximity, with the two taking turns between living in the house and the garage apartment, the two are able to really delve into why their marriage didn’t work and learn what they were lacking as both a person and partner.
In addition to Fischer and Hudson, Splitting Up Together stars Bobby Lee (Mad TV), Diane Farr (Rescue Me), and Lindsay Price (Lipstick Jungle).
Splitting Up Together airs Tuesdays at 9:30 on ABC.
