ABC has announced that Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD has been renewed for a seventh season, set to consist of 13 episodes. The series was renewed for a sixth season, which will premiere summer 2019, this past May.

Per Deadline, the renewal decision comes as the options on the show’s cast coming up, while producing a sixth and seventh season together should help reduce costs. Agents of SHIELD already has a lowered licensing fee after its most recent renewal.

The renewal of Agents of SHIELD gives it the second scripted slot on the 2019-20 schedule, with an untitled Marvel series from Wonder Woman writer Allan Heinberg receiving a production commitment in September. The network has already renewed America’s Funniest Home Videos and The Great Christmas Light Fight for next season, as well as ordered Home Videos spinoff Videos After Dark.

What do you think about the earliness of Agents of SHIELD‘s seventh season renewal? How do you think change within the Marvel cinematic universe will impact the show? Would you want the show to move back into the regular season for its seventh season?
