Showtime has announced that the upcoming ninth season of Shameless will consist of 14 episodes that will be split into two pods. The first seven episodes will air during the fall with Jim Carrey dramedy Kidding, while the second seven will premiere in January alongside the second season of SMILF and financial comedy Black Monday.
Season nine of Shameless finds Frank looking to take advantage of the political fervor that’s hit the Southside; Lip taking in Eddie’s niece Xan as a distraction from his constant sobriety battle; Ian facing the consequences for his action as Gay Jesus; Debbie dealing with issues of equal pay and workplace harassment; Carl preparing himself for cadet life; and Liam developing a new skillset.
Shameless remains a runaway success for Showtime, averaging 8 million non-linear viewers and ranking as the network’s youngest-skewing series. Any future the show has beyond its upcoming ninth season will come down to how stars Emmy Rossum and William H. Macy, as well as the show’s producers, feel about going forward.
The ninth season of Shameless is set to premiere Sunday, September 9th at 9:00, with the second half of the season to bow Sunday, January 20th at 9:00. You can check out a trailer below.
