ABC has parted ways with anthology drama Secrets and Lies after two seasons. The series showed some promise in the ratings when it premiered in the spring of 2015, holding incredibly steady despite an okay premiere and climbing in the last three episodes of the season, which was enough to score a second season. However, it was close to a year and a half from the time it was renewed to when the second season premiered, so whatever buzz the show had dissipated and the second season, having wrapped in December, was never able to recapture the ratings momentum it closed season one with.
Based on the Australian series of the same name and adapted for American television by Barbie Kligman (Private Practice), Secrets and Lies follows Detective Andrea Cornell (Juliette Lewis) as she investigates homicide cases. The first season followed Ben Crawford (Ryan Phillippe) as he became the prime suspect in the murder of a young boy from his neighborhood, while season two centered on newly married private equity heir Eric Warner (Michael Ealy), who gets accused of murdering his wife.
In addition to Lewis, the second season of Secrets and Lies starred Michael Ealy (Almost Human), Kenny Johnson (Bates Motel), Terry O’Quinn (Lost), Jordana Brewster (Lethal Weapon), and Mekia Cox (90210).
The series finale of Secrets and Lies aired Sunday, December 4th on ABC.
