One of The CW’s new projects in development with a pilot for the 2019-2020 TV season is Katy Keene, a spinoff of Riverdale that will focus on a character who is now somehow Veronica Lodge’s cousin. Like Riverdale, Katy Keene is based on a classic Archie Comics series.
At yesterday’s Executive Session on The CW’s day of the Television Critics Association Press Tour, the network’s Mark Pedowitz revealed that any crossover between the two series may be different, as Katy is in Riverdale’s future.
“Katy Keene actually takes place years after Riverdale High School. So, at the moment, there are no plans to do anything [for a crossover episode],” Pedowitz said during the session. “And, if any of those Riverdale characters should come to Katy Keene, they will come as an older self. I think with the early phases now at this time, I think Roberto is still working it out. Let us get the pilot right and then hopefully after the series, I can give you better answers,” he said.
Per the official logline, Katy Keene follows the lives and loves of four iconic Archie Comics characters — including fashion legend-to-be Katy Keene — as they chase their twentysomething dreams in New York City. Musical dramedy chronicles the origins and struggles of the aspiring artists trying to make it on Broadway, on the runway and in the recording studio. It is one of several pilots The CW ordered last week.
