Riverdale actress Camila Mendes answers some burning questions about the Lodge family. Riverdale: Camila Mendes Answers Questions About Veronica’s Mother

One question that we have had while watching The CW’s Riverdale is how Hermione Lodge (Marisol Nichols) manages to have such a fancy place to live – complete with a butler! – while at the same time needing to work at Pop’s diner in order to make ends meet. We asked Nichols herself about this a few weeks ago, and on our recent visit to the Riverdale set in Vancouver, we asked Camila Mendes, who plays Veronica, for her own perspective.

Hermione Lodge Marisol Nichols“I think the idea is that it’s the money that they kind of inherited post-all of this stuff,” Mendes explained to us. “She already had this apartment, it was her family’s apartment back when she lived in Riverdale; all my clothes and stuff is stuff that I had from my old life. I think she’s skeptical that the money’s coming from somewhere else — somewhere that can’t be revealed.”

Camila Mendes VeronicaMendes also had a lot to say about the actress who plays Hermione. “We just click as people and she’s very much kind of a mother to me on set,” Camila said of working with Marisol Nichols. “We bond off camera very much and we have lots of great talks. We both talk about how much we love their relationship. And we’re Latina and we both talk about how perfect it is that they’re Latina and how that plays into their relationship. They’re a little passionate, and they argue the most, and they’re very confrontational, which I like. They’re always bringing out the truth. Even if her mom is being really sketchy or whatever, they’re always having very real conversations.”

This new life seems to be working for Veronica in many ways, but one major aspect is missing. “I don’t think Veronica necessarily want to go back to New York anymore; I think she’s found a home in Riverdale,” Camila told us. “But normal for her is having the family unit back. Having her parents be in the same house and feeling like a family again. Right now, it’s chaos. She barely talks to her father, her mom is up to shady stuff and she’s kind of questioning her parents and whether or not they have good intentions,” she explained.
