Even though Teresa wanted nothing to do with the DEA, she was backed into a corner once Colonel Cortez sent his hit men after her and Camila. There was no way they could’ve fought their way out and even if they had managed to take down Cortez and his men, the colonel’s death would’ve brought an even greater force against them. The better option was to turn Camila over to the feds and hope that she could stay alive in their protection long enough for a plan to get her back out into the world presented itself. Until that time, though, there remains the question of who exactly will be running the cartel in her absence.
On the next episode of Queen of the South, James and Teresa find themselves at odds over Camila’s trust. James resents Teresa for both what happened while he was away healing and moving up the ranks of the operation quicker than he did, while Teresa sees her close relationship with Camila and willingness to do whatever asked of her as evidence that she deserves this opportunity to spread her wings. As much as Teresa might have initially balked at the idea of even working with Camila, let alone taking over the operation in her stead, her instincts have yet to fail her since the two joined forces, so running the cartel is something that she knows how to do. It gives her the autonomy she hasn’t felt since she thought Guero died and allows her the opportunity to prove to Camila that she’s got what it takes to handle more responsibility. But is it all worth it if it causes a permanent discord with James?
Elsewhere on Queen of the South, Epifanio’s puts his plan to sell his business to Boaz and leave the cartel world for good on hold in order to exact revenge on Colonel Cortez.
Queen of the South airs Thursdays at 10:00 on USA.
Will Teresa use Camila’s absence as an excuse to ascend to the throne and fully embrace her power? How will the conflict over who runs the cartel in Camila’s absence impact Teresa’s relationship with James? What type of revenge will Epifanio take on Colonel Cortez after the latter nearly took Camila out?
