Unconfirmed reports suggest AMC is developing a pilot based on the DC/Vertigo series Preacher DC/Vertigo’s Preacher Is Possibly In Development At AMC

There has been on and off talk of a Preacher television or movie project for years, based on the DC/Vertigo comic book series by Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon.

PCHTPBToday, Badass Digest is reporting from their sources that a Preacher television pilot is in development for AMC, the cable channel that brings us The Walking Dead. With its similar R-rated concept, Preacher would certainly be a good fit for the cable network.

The original Preacher series, which ran from 1995-2000, told the story of Jesse Custer, a preacher who was accidentally possessed by a supernatural creature named Genesis in an incident that killed his entire congregation of his entire church. Custer then travels across the U.S. trying to find God, who abandoned Heaven the moment Genesis was born. Accompanying Custer on his journey is his old girlfriend Tulip O’Hare and a an Irish vampire named Cassidy. Preacher also gave us “Uh-fuh.” If you’ve read the comics, you know who we’re referring to there.

We might add that the major media outlets like Deadline, TV Guide and THR have not yet jumped on this; then again, it is a weekend so the usual folks to confirm with might not be in the office to confirm it. So, we warn not to celebrate just yet… but if this is true, we might be in for what could be a very good TV series.
