Variety is reporting that ABC comedy pilot Work Wife has set its cast.
Inspired by the relationship between Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest, with David Windsor and Casey Johnson (The Real O’Neals) developing for television, Work Wife revolves around Dani (Angelique Cabral) and Scott (Tone Bell), two best friends and co-workers who decide to take a major professional leap together. However, striking out on their own and attempting to make headway in the cutthroat world of real estate puts major stress on both of them, but luckily, they have the yin-yang of their dynamic to fall back on.
Ripa will play queen of Cincinnati real estate Bobbi Gold, Dani and Scott’s larger than life former boss and current nemesis.
Christopher Gorham (Covert Affairs) is set as Dani’s husband Alex, a stay at home dad who’s more comfortable with his role than his traditional family is.
Annapurna Sriram (The Blacklist) will portray Rebecca, a first generation American whose ambition and win at all cost mentality is a product of her upbringing.
Matt Shively (The Purge) will play Dani’s friendly cousin Travis, the head of marketing at her new business who isn’t sure what he wants to do with his life.
Maile Flanagan (Lab Rats) is set as Dani and Scott’s administrative assistant Joy, whose sunny demeanor masks a dark side.
Work Wife is one of several comedy pilots in contention at ABC for 2020-21, joining Adopted, about a Green Beret whose family adopts a 12-year-old Russian boy; Home Economics, which follows three siblings occupying separate socioeconomic classes; Kids Matter Now, centering on a kid-phobic boss who adopts a child of her own; My Village, starring Kyra Sedgwick as an empty-nester who takes matters into her own hands; Prospect, revolving around a young woman (Hunter King) who moves to the frontier to teach school; Valley Trash, following a 14-year-old (Lulu Wilson) from a blue collar family who gets into a prestigious private school; and an untitled series from Emily Kapnek about a teenage girl who finds out a major family secret.
