Deadline is reporting that Telenovela alum Diana Maria Riva and My Name is Earl‘s Dale Dickey have joined ABC comedy pilot Prospect.
From Sherry Bilsing-Graham and Ellen Kreamer (I Hate My Teenage Daughter), Prospect tells the story of Abigail Lansing (Hunter King), an idealistic young woman who moves to the frontier to become a schoolteacher. However, once she arrives at her new place of residence, she realizes that instead of teaching the youth of the town, she’ll be in charge of rowdy ranch hands.
Riva will play street smart Delfina, a tough and pragmatic employee at the town saloon looking to change her life.
Dickey is set as Winnie Mae-Winnie, a salt-of-the-earth pioneer woman with an incredible work ethic. She’ll be housing Abigail, at least until the teacher gets her feet under her, and while she’s not thrilled about it, her brand of feminism eventually leads her to respect the town newbie.
Prospect is one of several comedies in development at ABC for 2020-21, joining Adopted, about a Green Beret whose family adopts a 12-year-old Russian boy; Home Economics, following three siblings from three socioeconomic classes; workplace multi-cam Kids Matter Now; multi-cam My Village, starring Kyra Sedgwick as an empty-nester struggling with her newfound alone time; an untitled series from Emily Kapnek about a teenage girl who uncovers a family secret; Valley Trash, centering on a blue collar family whose daughter gets accepted into a prestigious private school; and Work Wife, inspired by the relationship between Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest.
In addition to her role on the NBC comedy, Riva’s television credits include Sunnyside, Man with a Plan, and Dead to Me, while Dickey has appeared on the likes of Claws, Unbelievable, and True Blood.
