According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC family drama pilot Heart of Life has added Harry Shum Jr. (Shadowhunters) and Man Seeking Woman alum Katie Findlay. Shum Jr. is set as self-centered world traveler Brendan, often considered to be a voice of reason, while Findlay will play Brendan’s ambitious and awkward sister Sydney, a Type-A personality who just took over the family architecture firm.
Based on the John Mayer song of the same name, with Ben Queen (A to Z) scripting, Heart of Life follows two wildly different sets of adult siblings who are forced to reconcile everything they thought they knew about their shared father after they discover they’re related. The series chronicles the siblings as they investigate their mysterious childhoods and adjust to their family being just a bit bigger than they originally thought.
In addition to his role on the Freeform drama, Shum Jr.’s television credits include Glee, Mortal Kombat: Legacies, and Greek, while Findlay is known for roles on The Magicians, The Carrie Diaries, and How to Get Away with Murder.
Heart of Life is part of a drama pilot slate for ABC that includes action-adventure drama Triangle; romantic dramedy The Baker and the Beauty; stalker thriller The Hypnotist’s Love Story; and new takes on New York Undercover and NYPD Blue, among others.
