TV Line is reporting that CBS Silence of the Lambs sequel Clarice has cast The Originals alum Rebecca Breeds in its title role.
Based on the acclaimed 1991 film that starred Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster, with Alex Kurtzman (Sleepy Hollow) and Jenny Lumet (Rachel Getting Married) developing for television, Clarice is set a year following the events of Lambs, with FBI Agent Clarice Starling returning to the field to pursue serial murderers and sexual predators while navigating the high stakes political world of Washington, D.C.
Breeds’ Clarice is described as brilliant and vulnerable, a brave woman still troubled by a challenging childhood and the family secrets that she’s forced to carry.
Clarice has a series commitment from CBS but will still shoot a pilot, so a formal pickup likely won’t come until sometime in spring. It’s one of several drama pilots in contention at CBS, joining a reboot of The Equalizer starring Queen Latifah; medical drama Good Sam, about the complicated relationship between a talented but stifled surgeon and her blowhard of a supervisor; legal drama The Lincoln Lawyer; cop drama Out the Door; and Ways & Means, centering on two politicians from different sides of the aisle who work to subvert the gridlock on Capitol Hill.
In addition to her role on the CW drama, Breeds has appeared on the likes of Pretty Little Liars, We Are Men, and The Code.
