CBS has ordered three additional comedy pilots, it was announced on Wednesday.
From Kevin Kwan (Crazy Rich Asians) and David Sangalli (Domestic Shorthair Underground), The Emperor of Malibu follows the engagement between the son of a Chinese billionaire and an American woman and what happens when his family descends upon the couple to try and win their son back. The series is a multi-cam.
From Bill Martin and Mike Schiff (Fam), The Unicorn tells the story of a widower who underestimated just how unprepared he is to raise his two daughters on his own and how hot of a commodity he will become in the dating world following his loss. The series is a multi-cam.
From Brendan O’Brien (Neighbors) and Nick Stoller (The Carmichael Show), Our House is a multi-cam hybrid comedy (a’la How I Met Your Mother) that centers on a couple trying to raise their children better than they were raised, only to have to deal with the sudden arrival of one set of grandparents.
The Emperor of Malibu, The Unicorn, and Our House join a comedy pilot roster for CBS that includes Chuck Lorre romantic comedy Bob (Hearts) Abishola; Carol’s Second Act, which stars Patricia Heaton; The Story of Us, a multi-cam whose story of an unlikely couple becoming an unlikely family is told through vignettes and interviews; and My Name is Earl-meets-millennials To Whom It May Concern.
