According to The Hollywood Reporter, The Daily Show writer X Mayo has joined NBC workplace comedy pilot American Auto.
From Justin Spitzer (Superstore), American Auto follows the goings-on at a major American automotive company in Detroit where a floundering group of executives try to rediscover the company identity amid a rapidly changing industry.
Mayo will play sweet and wholesome Dori, the assistant to CEO Katherine Hastings (Ana Gasteyer).
American Auto is one of six comedy pilots in contention at NBC, joining Crazy For You, which stars Shelley Hennig as a woman finding it difficult to get back into the dating world; Jefferies, a multi-cam from Legit creator Jim Jefferies; a series adaptation of Tiffany Haddish movie Night School; Someone Out There, a romantic comedy starring Aimee Carrero and Ryan Hansen; and an untitled series executive produced by Brooklyn Nine-Nine creator Dan Goor said to be about a group of Black friends, dating, and wine.
The network also has series orders for Dwayne Johnson origin story Young Rock, 2019-20 holdover The Kenan Show, and an untitled comedy from Tina Fey about a businessman who unexpectedly becomes mayor of Los Angeles.
Apart from her time on the Comedy Central talk show, where she’s had multiple on-camera roles in addition to her writing duties, Mayo’s only prior television credit is a recurring role on Facebook Watch series Strangers.
