Showtime has released the trailer for upcoming Penny Dreadful sequel Penny Dreadful: City of Angels and in it, we see a city shaken to its core by a recent tragedy.
From original series creator John Logan, Penny Dreadful: City of Angels, described as a spiritual successor to the original series and said to explore Mexican-American folklore, follows the reverberations of a grisly murder in 1938 Los Angeles. When Detective Tiago Vega (Daniel Zovatto) and partner Lewis Michener (Nathan Lane) begin looking into the case, they soon find themselves grappling with powerful forces that threaten to tear them apart.
In addition to Zovatto and Lane, the series stars Natalie Dormer (The Tudors), Kerry Bishé (Halt and Catch Fire), Rory Kinnear (The Imitation Game), Adriana Barraza (Babel), Michael Gladis (Mad Men), Jessica Garza (The Purge), and Johnathan Nieves (Grey’s Anatomy).
This is one of several series in the pipeline at Showtime, with Ethan Hawke drama The Good Lord Bird, Bryan Cranston legal thriller Your Honor, and an adaptation of the Halo video game series all set to premiere over the next year or so.
The series premiere of Penny Dreadful: City of Angels is set for Sunday, April 26th at 10:00 on Showtime.
