SHILO: During the opening weeks of the season, I think they’ll use The Big Bang Theory to launch prequel Young Sheldon, a single cam family comedy focusing on the title character as a pre-teen. Where it’s not a direct spinoff of Big Bang, and where CBS is still dipping its toes into single camera comedy, I think the show will need the sampling that follow the original would provide. For the 9:00 hour, I went with new comedy 9J, 9K, 9L leading into critically praised Superior Donuts; I figure that 9J, which is said to have tested immensely well, would benefit from a very solid 8:00 hour and since CBS needs a 9:00 anchor on Mondays, using Big Bang‘s halo would be one of the best ways to solidify the rest of the night. I’d understand if they did Kevin Can Wait/Man with a Plan at 9:00, since both shows have looked weaker recently, but they’re two shows I could easily see rebounding in the fall without the help of the newfound Big Bang-verse.
CRAIG: If Young Sheldon didn’t already sound earmarked for that slot right after The Big Bang Theory, I would keep both shows on different nights, with Young Sheldon following Kevin Can Wait in a family-friendly sandwich with Man With A Plan at 9. Since that’s probably not what will happen, I’m mostly defering to what you had in your schedule, with one exception: I’ve slotted the Alan Cumming-starring Instinct at 10PM. It’s CBS-owned; it’s a show that sounds very much like The Blacklist in a time slot that The Blacklist did best in. Or, at least, it’s something for CBS to consider; I can’t say for sure, because Glenn Geller won’t return my calls. (Kidding, I didn’t call Glenn Geller.)
