At Disney’s D23 Expo on Friday, Disney+ announced that a live-action series focused on Marvel character Ms. Marvel is now in development.

Based on the character created by Marvel talents Sana Amanat, Stephen Wacker, G. Willow Wilson, Adrian Alphona, and Jamie McKelvie, with Bisha K. Ali (Four Weddings and a Funeral) adapting for television, Ms. Marvel follows Kamala Khan, a Pakistani-American teenager living in New Jersey, as she discovers and learns to utilize her polymorphous powers. This will mark the character’s first time being portrayed in a live-action television series, with Kathleen Khavari having voiced Khan in animated properties such as Avengers Assemble and Spider-Man.

“You will meet her in her Disney+ series and then you will see her in our films. It is incredibly exciting for us,” Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige said at D23. Casting for the role of Kamala Khan should be announced at a later date.

Ms. Marvel is one of several Marvel-centric scripted shows set at Disney+, which will launch November 12th in the United States, Canada, and the Netherlands. Among the streaming platforms comic offerings are The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, WandaVision, and Hawkeye.
