HBO has released the trailer for upcoming horror drama Lovecraft Country and in it, we see the lengths one is willing to go through in order to reunite with a lost loved one.
Based on the novel of the same name from Matt Ruff, with Oscar winner Jordan Peele (Get Out) executive producing and Misha Green (Underground) acting as showrunner, Lovecraft Country tells the story of Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors) as he gathers his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) and Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) to go on a cross-country road trip in search of his missing father Montrose (Michael K. Williams). Along the way, the group encounters the racist horrors of Jim Crow era America and terrifying monsters that could be ripped from a Lovecraft paperback.
In addition to Majors, Smollett-Bell, Vance, and Williams, the series stars Wumni Mosaku (Vera), Aunjanue Ellis (Quantico), and Abbey Lee (The Neon Demon).
It’s one of several scripted series in the pipeline for HBO, joining the likes of Michaela Coel half-hour I May Destroy You, about a writer who gets sexually assaulted and has to put the pieces back together; financial industry drama Industry; Jude Law limited series The Third Day; and The Undoing, a series starring Oscar winner Nicole Kidman as a therapist whose life begins falling apart around her.
Lovecraft Country is set to premiere this August on HBO.
