ABC has become the final broadcast network to reveal its plans for fall 2017 and things kick off on Monday, September 18th with the two-hour season premiere of Dancing with the Stars, the cast of which has yet to be revealed. It’s also yet to be announced what show will be leading out of the premiere since freshman drama The Good Doctor won’t be premiering until September 25th at 10:00.
ABC Tuesdays kick off on October 3rd with the full lineup premiering together – The Middle retaining its 8:00 slot from last season; Fresh Off the Boat moving half an hour earlier; Black-ish becoming the 9:00 tentpole; and new 9:30 comedy The Mayor acting as ABC’s only fall comedy launch. The 10:00 hour belongs to The Series Formerly Known as The Gospel of Kevin or, at we call it from this day forward, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World. (No, really.) There’s been no indication as to why ABC changed the show’s name, though the religious overtones of the original title might’ve been a barrier for some viewers.
Much like Tuesday, ABC Wednesdays will also premiere together, albeit a week earlier on September 27th – the fifth season of network cornerstone The Goldbergs, which is already renewed for a sixth go-around, at 8:00; the second season of critically praised comedy Speechless at 8:30; the ninth season of still huge Modern Family at 9:00; a relocated American Housewife hoping for a second season bounce at 9:30; and fellow sophomore Designated Survivor rounding things out at 10:00.
ABC Thursdays are set to kick off on September 28th with the two-hour 14th season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy leading into the fourth season premiere of How to Get Away with Murder at 10:00. The final season premiere of Scandal will then debut October 5th at 9:00, with the show’s seventh trip around the TV sun possessing 18 episodes.
Also broken up are ABC Fridays, which begin with a two-hour series premiere of Marvel’s Inhumans on September 29th beginning at 8:00. The series then moves to 9:00 the following week when the seventh season of a rebooted Once Upon a Time makes its debut.
But The Gospel of Kevin‘s reinvention isn’t the only major change from ABC’s fall schedule. The second season of Shark Tank-esque reality competition The Toy Box will be premiering Sunday, October 1st at 7:00, displacing America’s Funniest Home Videos until its own season premiere November 26th. October 1st will also see a relocated Shark Tank having a two-hour premiere alongside The Toy Box and the series premiere of Ten Days in the Valley, with To Tell the Truth assuming the 8:00 slot on October 8th.
