Acorn TV has announced that the third season of acclaimed Australian legal drama Janet King will be premiering Monday, July 3rd, with two episodes being released weekly by the streaming service.
A spinoff of 2011 legal drama Crownies, Janet King follows Senior Crown Prosecutor Janet King (Marta Dusseldorp) as she takes on a single case over the course of each close-ended season and attempts to balance her two children and new girlfriend with her desire for justice. The first two seasons focused on Janet investigating a high ranking police officer arrested for the assisted suicide of his wife and looking into a rash of violent crimes perpetrated with illegal handguns. Season three, meanwhile, tells the story of Janet’s involvement in a case focusing on a young cricketer and how his death intersects with the seedy, shadowy world of match fixing and kickbacks.
In addition to Dusseldorp, Janet King stars Damian Walshe-Howling (Terra Nova), Peter Kowitz (Body Surfer), Christopher Morris (Four Lions), Andrea Demetriades (Pulse), Anita Hegh (Stingers), and Hamish Michael (Ready for This). The series is part of a scripted slate for Acorn TV that includes Vera, The Good Karma Hospital, and Murdoch Mysteries.
