Amazon has given a series order to a drama series based on the character Jack Reacher.
“Lee Child’s Jack Reacher books series is a global phenomenon with one of entertainment’s most well-known heroes, and a perfect fit for Amazon Studios’ slate of bold, character-driven series,” said Jennifer Salke, Head of Amazon Studios. “We look forward to expanding the of the Jack Reacher universe and bringing more thrilling action to our Amazon Prime Video audience.”
Originating in the novel series from Lee Childs, which is 24 entries deep and counting, Jack Reacher is a former US Army Major who roams the United States taking odd jobs and investigating suspicious and frequently dangerous situations. Amazon’s series will tackle the first novel in Childs’ series, titled The Killing Floor, which follows Reacher as he’s arrested for murder shortly after arriving in a small Georgia town. He must then work to prove his innocence before it’s too late.
The Jack Reacher novel series was previously adapted into two films starring Tom Cruise. The franchise has grossed over $350 million combined.
Amazon is already home to similarly titled Jack Ryan, which follows the titular CIA analyst (John Krasinski) as he leaves his desk job to work missions in the field. The series, also based on a novel series (in this instance, from Tom Clancy), is said to be one of Amazon’s most popular originals, drawing 4.6 million viewers in its first week following season 2’s release.
