At the Television Critics Association Press Tour today in Beverly Hills, California, it was announced that the character of John Constantine as played by Matt Ryan in the NBC series Constantine would be appearing in the fifth episode of Arrow Season 4, which is titled “Haunted.” You can read more about that episode at our Arrow portal, GreenArrowTV.
Following a panel spotlighting the female executive producers at The CW, we talked to Arrow Co-Showrunner and Executive Producer Wendy Mericle about the big crossover.
“We are bringing John Constantine on the show for one episode, 405. It came out of us talking about a story where it’s tied to Sara Lance’s resurrection. You know she’s coming back for Legends [of Tomorrow], and it just seemed like the most organic fit for us, and we’re really excited about it. We’re excited to have Matt Ryan, and we’re very excited that DC was generous enough to let us have that character,” she confirmed.
Could this be the start of a second life for John Constantine on television? “For now, it’s one episode,” she tells us. “It was never intended to be a long-term thing; it was much more about how we needed someone to come in and do this piece of work for us with Sara Lance, and we were lucky enough to get him,” she said, also assuring that the costume and look of John Constantine will be consistent with what we had seen before.
“We’re going to try to do everything exactly down to the way it was on the show,” she promised.
Arrow “Haunted” will likely air during November sweeps on The CW. The show itself returns October 7.
