HBO has announced that summer comedies Insecure and Ballers have been renewed for their third and fourth seasons, respectively, with both set to return in 2018.
“We’re thrilled that the summer lineup of Ballers and Insecure connected with our viewers out of the gate,” said Amy Gravitt, executive vice president, HBO Programming. “We’re so proud to work with Dwayne, Issa and all of the amazing talent in both shows.”
From Stephen Levinson (Boardwalk Empire), Ballers follows former football player Spencer Strasmore (Dwayne Johnson) as he attempts to move from the field to the board room by becoming a financial manager to up-and-coming players. The series chronicles the difficulties that come with the sudden burst of fame that professional sports provides and the various pitfalls that young players have to deal with in living their dreams.
Insecure tells the story of best friends Issa (Issa Rae) and Molly (Yvonne Orji), two 20-something black women dealing with issues of love, career, and race while trying to find their place in the world. Co-created by Rae and Larry Wilmore (The Bernie Mac Show), Insecure also stars Jay Ellis (The Game), Lisa Joyce (Billy & Billie), Amanda Seales (Get Your Life), and Natasha Rothwell (Saturday Night Live).
Ballers airs Sundays at 10:00 on HBO, with Insecure following at 10:30.
