TV Land has given a series order to Heathers, an hour-long comedy anthology based on the 1989 cult classic film of the same name.
“Our take on Heathers is a cinematic, surprising and twisted comedy that gives a wonderful nod to the film while also creating something entirely its own,” said Keith Cox, President of Development and Production for TV Land. “We’re really passionate about this show and the satirical story-telling its provocative characters allow.”
Developed for television by Jason Micallef (Butter) and set in present day, Heathers follows Veronica Sawyer (Grace Victoria Cox) as she deals with a vicious social group who make her life a living hell. The series, TV Land’s first venture into hour-long scripted content, joins a roster that includes the likes of Darren Star’s Younger; George Lopez vehicle Lopez; and ensemble comedy Teachers.
In addition to Cox, newcomer-heavy Heathers stars James Scully as JD (originally played by Christian Slater), Melanie Field as Heather Chandler (originally played by Kim Walker), Brendan Scannell as Heather Duke (originally played by Shannon Doherty, who will guest star in the series as another character), and Jasmine Matthews as Heather McNamara (originally played by Lisanne Falk).
The 10-episode first season of Heathers is set to premiere sometime this fall on TV Land. You can check out a trailer for the original film below.
