Deadline is reporting that murder mystery Guilt has been cancelled after one season by Freeform. The show’s series finale aired this past August.

Guilt becomes the second Freeform freshman drama to be cancelled this year following the demise of addiction drama Recovery Road. The series, which was scheduled behind family drama The Fosters instead of murder mystery Pretty Little Liars, had a quiet run in the summer that concluded with a shocking finale that tied up loose ends while concluding with a cliffhanger that would’ve launched a second season. Most impressively, the cliffhanger paid off a season of interesting choices related to the show’s main character and showed a bravery that would’ve been interesting to see explored in the future.

With Guilt‘s cancellation, Freeform’s current drama roster includes Pretty Little Liars, The Fosters, Stitchers, Shadowhunters, and Switched at Birth, with Famous in Love and Beyond set to premiere next year. Summer anthology Dead of Summer has yet to have its fate determined, though with announcements for Stitchers and Guilt already out, it shouldn’t be too long before the show learns if it gets a second go-around.

From Kathryn Price and Nichole Millard (The Game Plan), Guilt followed Grace (Daisy Head), a young American woman living in London who becomes embroiled in a murder investigation when her roommate turns up dead. Grace subsequently becomes a tabloid target as the press tries to paint her as a sociopath, while the investigation, which brings Grace’s attorney sister to London from Boston, touches on everything from a steamy sex club to the obsessive nature of the local prosecutor and the proclivities of the royal family.

In addition to Head, Guilt starred Emily Tremaine (Vinyl), Cristian Solimeno (Rush), Naomi Ryan (Guardians of the Galaxy), Simona Brown (The Night Manager), Billy Zane (Titanic), and Kevin Ryan (Copper).

Will you miss Guilt? Do you think that Grace would have been convicted of Roz’s murder? What type of drama would you like to see on Freeform going forward?
