Abby thought the worst thing that could’ve come from the baseball moms finding out about her relationship with Coach Mike was that things would be much more awkward for Charlie. If Mike played him more, the moms would think it was because of her influence; if Charlie didn’t get much playing time, it would be because of conflict in their relationship. Abby knows how important the baseball team is to Charlie, how it’s helping his socialization and giving him something to focus on, so the last thing she would want to do is take that away from him, even indirectly. But Linda threw Abby to curviest of curveballs by promising to not reveal her relationship with Coach Mike while leaking that Mike is still living with his ex-wife. It was a shock to Abby’s system, knowing that Mike is still in the complicated thicket one enters upon getting divorced, and unfortunately, something that influences every other aspect of her life.

On the next episode of Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, Abby clashes with Jo over the conflict between Zooey and Lily over Ethan, which is kind of Jo’s fault since she pushed for her daughter to be bolder. Unfortunately, Zooey has no experience in matters of the heart and didn’t realize that being bolder doesn’t mean going after the other girl in her love triangle; it means being more outward with her feelings and not only showing Ethan that she’s interested, but showing him her truest self despite the risk of rejection. Yet Abby classifying Zooey running up on Lily at the baseball party as bullying feels like a stretch, given that it was a brief, isolated incident that, at best, featured vague name calling. Abby taking up for Lily so vociferously might mostly be due to her love for her daughter, but there’s a part of this that is Abby reeling from the awkwardness with Mike and using Lily as her relationship avatar. But Abby is risking her friendship with Jo by projecting her own issues onto Lily’s similar situation and misdirecting her anger away from the person she’s actually mad at – herself.

Elsewhere on Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce, emotional distance grows between Phoebe and JD as she worries about his artistic direction, while Ronnie’s drama puts Delia’s plans in jeopardy.

Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce airs Wednesdays at 10:00 on Bravo.

Could Abby’s drama with Coach Mike be influencing her response to Zooey and Lily’s conflict? Is Phoebe letting her desire for fame and attraction to Gemma cloud her marriage? When will Delia put her foot down about how poorly Ronnie’s been behaving?
