According to The Hollywood Reporter, Syfy has officially acquired upcoming drama series Ghost Wars from Calgary’s Nomadic Pictures.
“Ghost Wars is not just a contemporary homage to classic psychological horror, it’s also an opportunity to tell stories about human politics and how we shape our beliefs and lives based on our individual perspectives and biases,” Executive Producer Simon Barry said. “Science, humanism, religion and the paranormal all get a seat at the table. I’m grateful that [Nomadic co-chairmen] Chad Oakes and Mike Frislev have assembled such a wealth of talent, both in front of and behind the camera, to hopefully elevate this genre series beyond expectations.”
Created by Barry (Continuum), who will also act as showrunner, Ghost Wars follows outcast Roman Mercer (Avan Jogia), an Alaskan man who must overcome his personal demons if he’s to harness his untapped psychic powers and save the townsfolk from the mass haunting heading their way.
In addition to Jogia, Ghost Wars stars Vincent D’Onofrio (Emerald City), Kim Coates (Sons of Anarchy), Kristin Lehman (Motive), and Meatloaf (Fight Club). The series joins a slate of acquisitions for Syfy that includes Van Helsing and Wynonna Earp. The network’s home-grown originals are 12 Monkeys, The Expanse, The Magicians, Z Nation, and Channel Zero.
Production on Ghost Wars began May 1st in Vancouver.
