Epix has announced that new dramedy Get Shorty has been renewed for a second season, which will consist of 10 episodes and premiere in 2018.
“Epix is proud to be the home of Get Shorty, which has been the perfect addition to our scripted original slate,” Epix president and CEO Mark Greenberg said in a statement. “Get Shorty is our most successful original scripted series to date, and continues to deliver phenomenal performances. We are thrilled to be working again with MGM Television, Davey Holmes, Chris O’Dowd, Ray Romano and the Get Shorty team on a second season.”
Based on the 1990 Elmore Leonard novel of the same name, which was previously turned into a 1995 film starring John Travolta, and adapted for television by Davey Holmes (Damages), Get Shorty follows Miles Daly (Chris O’Dowd), a hitman who longs to leave his criminal life behind and reunite with his estranged family. In order to do so, he meets washed up Hollywood producer Rick Moreweather (Ray Romano) and uses his new connection to guide him through the world of showbiz and, hopefully, show him how to live a more legit life.
In addition to O’Dowd and Romano, Get Shorty stars Sean Bridgers (Rectify) as Miles’ criminal associate Louis; Lidia Porto (Horrible Bosses 2) as Amara, the chief of Miles’ crime ring and the main backer of his production expenditures; Goya Robles (11:55) as Amara’s dangerous nephew Yargo; Megan Stevenson (Review) as ambitious studio executive April; and Carolyn Dodd (The Adventures of Catty Wompus) as Miles’ daughter Emma.
Get Shorty airs Sundays on Epix.
