      1984 is a tremendous book. He really thought out a lot of things, too.

      They aren't that old, but, they have gone down as classics in history.

        My favourite novels are:

        Pride & Prejudice - Jane Austen
        Crime & Punishment - Fyodor Dostoevsky
        To Kill a Mockingbird - Harper Lee
        Catch 22 - Joseph Heller
        The Grapes of Wrath - John Steinbeck
        ..and Harry Potter but I don't think that will count in this thread

          Out of these i liked Great Gatsby best. I also enjoyed Hemmingway. We read 2 of his books; the Sun Also Rises and Old Man and The Sea.
          I didnt liek Old Man...but I liked the Sun Also Rises. Prob was one of the best books we read Junior Year

            I really liked Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen... once I got the lingo down.. was a really great read!

            Otherwise Lewis Carroll Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass is a close 2nd

                        I have trouble thinking of any novels written before 1900 that I've actually enjoyed.

                        If we are generous with the term "classic" ... Dune, 1984, Foundation.
