^^I've been wondering how they would work that out in SV too. The whole point to having a secret identity is so that your enemies won't know how to get you (or your loved ones) when you are not being the hero. I think that the Superman I movie might have even addressed that (it's been awhile since I saw it, so I could be wrong). IMO, Lex can never know that Clark is Superman. He will have to battle Clark and Superman separately. Maybe Clark can help bring Lex down by making his crimes public, and then Superman can battle him once he is a known criminal? Not sure.

LOL ^ Clark'sGal, that avi is hilarious.

I'm not sure how they will handle it either when Clark becomes Supes - I mean that is his destiny.....guess we'll just have to wait and see how it goes down. I think that it would add a level of evil to Lex if he knew that it was Clark because then he'd then know what Clark had been all along - the lying etc - that would push Lex further to the dark side.

Since this isn't Superman page for page as it is in the comics -they do have some wiggle room - but not much because the fans will start to complain or loose interest if the show doesn't at least try to hold true to the icon of Superman.

Lex never knows that Clark Kent is Superman. Like everyone else, he just thinks that Clark works closely with Superman and probably knows more about him than anyone does...other than Lois Lane.

But Lex has a certain disdain for Clark the reporter....because of his knowledge about Supes, and the fact that Lex doesn't like Clark prying into his dirty dealings and everything else he's covertly involved in. That's why I think the turbulent relationship between Clark and Lex has already begun on Smallville. Lex won't like Clark's prying. He's already shown before that he doesn't. Clark doesn't like Lex for the evil deeds he's involved in.

So yeah, on the show, that part of their dislike for each other has already begun....and in the future, it never gets better.

It was pretty awesome how Clark smirked right before dodging Titan's last thrust and launching his upper cut.

On the how will Clark convince Lex that he's not Superman front, I think it will work out just the way it happened in one of the very earliest post-Crisis Superman comics. S(v2)#2 I think from 1988. Lex is trying to figure out who Superman is: hires a scientist and crack team of specialists to investigate. They discover Lana is somehow always lurking in the crowd at Superman's appearances (long story), track her down, torture her, then let her loose. She goes running to Clark (big surprise), he (as Superman) attacks the lab she was being held at. Lex's team (expecting this) takes detailed biometric readings of Superman; does their analysis. Scientist presents conclusive proof to Lex that Superman is Clark Kent.

The kicker is this: Lex fires the scientist and makes her un-employable because she jumped to the "WRONG" conclusion. Lex will never be able to believe that SUPERMAN (the real deal) would choose to masquerade as a human being at all, much less Clark Kent. Because Lex sees the world through his own distorted values, he assumes that with all Superman's power, Superman would live in lordly isolation, consorting only with his fellow superbeings.

I don't think Smallville has all that far to go on this front actually, what with Lex's disdainful "when I thought you mattered" [or something like that] when he told Clark he understands Lana's fixation about learning the truth. I like to think that he'll convince himself that Clark's secret is that he's covering for the real Superman. This will in turn make Lex hate Superman for being what came between him and the only real friend he ever had (well one of three if you count Lana and the guy from Reunion. I certainly don't.)

Oh and Lex did find out once about the secret ID: when he was president of the US. He let Clark know he knew but held off on taking action until he could figure out how to turn it to his advantage. Then Lex had the knowledge erased thanks to Manchester Black, though Lex knows that he once knew the secret. He blames his erased memory on the JLA Identity Crisis.
