    ***REGISTERING/ GETTING STARTED***

Why can I still not post on the forums?
Please see the end of the site rules for that info.

How long does it take for my registration to be processed?
    Between 24 to 72 hours.

Okay, I'm all registered! What's the first thing I should do?
First, read the site rules and familiarize yourself with this FAQ.
Next, go introduce yourself here so we can get to know you!

I hate my username. Can I change it?
Only if you misspelled something during your registration (you would not believe how many "Brianiacs" and "Choles" we've done this for), or if you want to take numbers off the end of your name (e.g. go from Rashad148126532 to just plain Rashad). You cannot go from, say, Linda293527 to PinkEagle2006.

I am leaving, never to return. Delete my account!
    No.

*** THE RULES AND THE MODERATORS ***

What are the main rules of posting on this site?
Glad you asked! We've posted them all here!

Who are the moderators of Kryptonsite?
We have a running list at the top of the Main Site Rules post. It is totally up to date and current.

I have a huge problem with a mod that I can't seem to resolve. What should I do?
Please send a private message to Craig, aka Kryptonsite, and he'll try to resolve it for you.

    Swell. But who is "Craig"?
He's the guy who created Kryptonsite, Neptunesite and these forums. He's basically the Head Honcho and has the final say about everything here!

How can I apply to become a moderator?
You can't. We are currently not looking for any new moderators.

I got a warning from a moderator. What should I do?
First, read the site rules over carefully and familiarize yourself with them before making another post. Secondly, avoid being warned again – you'll be permanently banned.

How many warnings do I get before I get banned?
In most cases, just one. In several cases, none. It's up to the discretion of the moderators and how disruptive they feel your rule-breaking is, and/or how likely you are to continue doing so in the future.

I did something to get banned and, gee, I'm really sorry. Can you unban me now?
    Nope.

Darn. Can I just register under a new user name and start fresh?
No. If a banned user re-reregisters under a new user name, and we find out about it, we'll just ban them again.

Why can the mods and admins post curse words and we can't?
Board censors are turned off for all administrators and moderators for administrative purposes.

Someone is totally breaking a rule on the forums! What should I do?
Use the REPORT POST link in the lower right hand corner of the offending post. This will ensure that ALL the moderators of the forum get the report.

*** POSTING AND THREAD TOPICS ***

How can I make sure my thread won't get deleted or closed?
You can follow the guidelines laid forth in Rule #20 of the the site rules

I started a thread, and now I don't see it anywhere. I should start it again, right?
NO. It probably got moved, renamed or deleted, because it wasn't following our thread posting guidelines laid forth in Rule #20 of the the site rules

    Are threads about politics allowed?
Threads specifically started to discuss politics are not allowed. There are plenty of other forums on the Internet to have huge political flamewars. This is not one of them. Attempting to veer a non-political thread into a discussion about politics will get a warning.

Is religion a taboo subject too?
Nope, it isn't. Religion is allowable within the confines of this board as long as it follows ALL the regular rules of this board, and meets one of two conditions:

    - It's on topic: For example, threads about "Is Logan an Atheist?" or "Do the Kents go to church?" are totally allowed. OR
    - You're posting in the off-topic forums. It's always a good idea to run it by a moderator first. Not a requisite, but usually wise.

I have no idea where to post my new thread.
Run the idea by a mod, or post in the HELP DESK forums. We're here for you!

My thread was moved, deleted, dumped or merged. Is this because the mods hate me? Am I going to be banned?
Yes. No, no, we're totally kidding. Please don't take it personally. Everyone can make an honest mistake and we won't ban anyone for that. If you get a private message about it from a mod, that's not a warning – that's a friendly heads-up!

Can I post in the Adult Fan Fiction Forums?
Only if you're 18 years of age or over. If we find out you're underage and posting there, you'll be banned without warning.

Great, I'm totally old enough. What can I post in the Adult Fan Fiction Forums?
Both of the Adult Fan Fiction forums have very specific rules about what can and cannot be posted there tacked up at the top of the forum. Please read that before starting a new thread!

Why isn't there an Adult Fan Art forum to match?
Because visual porn is governed by different laws and bears different and far more severe responsibilities than written erotica.

What are flaming, trolling and spamming, and why aren't they allowed?
Flaming: An insult or a personal attack, either to a group of people, or to an individual, meant to offend or provoke upset.
Trolling: Posting in a forum for the sole purpose of disrupting the flow of discussion.
Spamming: Unsolicited advertisements for other sites, products or media, commercial or personal.

Why can't we talk about downloading things?
People from the various networks of the shows we cover come here. We want to respect their copyright as much as possible. Please don't even allude to downloading or tape swapping of any kind. We will ban without warning anyone who does so.

I've started a new thread and no one's responded to it. Can I bump it?
No. If you do that, we'll send your thread to the forum archive. If people want to talk about the subject of your thread, they will post in it.

When I tried to post my story to the FanFiction forums, it tells me my story is too long!
Meep. Sorry. There's a 50,000 word limit on the forums. We're working on this issue. For now, consider posting just a link to your story archived on FanFiction.net, your own personal web site, or LiveJournal.

A moderator told me my post was too damn long. But there's no rule about this. How long is too long?
Look, we have a 50,000 character limit that is meant to be used to its maximum for the fan fiction forums ONLY. Because we expect our users to use a modicum of common sense.

This is a DISCUSSION forum. We are here to have back-and-forth discussions about the given subjects. A ginormous treatise on a single subject not only probably doesn't belong here, but actually DERAILS discussion and won't get read by the vast majority of people. Try to respond to other posters; don't talk AT people, but WITH them. We won't give you a specific word count, but the rule of thumb is, if it's more than two screenfuls of scrolling, it probably belongs on a LiveJournal instead.

Why can't I make two sequential posts in the same thread?
Because double posting is annoying. If you have something to add, just go back and edit your previous post.

When is it better to start a new thread than to respond to an old one?
When your response really isnt' about the main subject at all, but a comment on a tangent that has been brought up in the thread. For example: when your response to a spoiler thread is a pure speculation, or when a thread about Clark evolves into a thread about Clark and his relationship with Lana.

Why are people so mean if I post in the "wrong" forum?
Because it's really not that hard to post in the right one, is it?

*** SPOILERS, SPECULATION AND THE ONE-WEEK RULE ***

What is a spoiler for the purposes of this site?
Please see here for the Kryptonsite spoiler policy. The principles in this thread apply to the rest of this board.

Why did my spoiler thread get moved to the Speculation and Theories forum?
Threads that have "I believe" or "I have a theory/ prediction/ feeling" or something similar in the title belong in the Theories and Speculation forum. Additionally, please see the spoiler policies above for why.

What is the "one-week" spoiler rule about new episodes?
It's this: All discussion of any newly aired episode must be confined to just the episode discussion thread (for Veronica Mars) or the forum for that episode (for Smallville until one week after it first airs in the United States. We do this because there are many people who TiVO, record, or otherwise miss the episodes on first airing, and want to give them a week to catch up without spoiling the episode for them. So don't mention the events of any new episode outside its designated forum or episode thread for seven days after it first airs. One week means 7 days, meaning if the episode airs on a Wednesday, the following Wednesday you're free and clear.

Are avatars that contain spoilers for upcoming episodes allowed?
Absolutely not. The whole forum, including anyone who wants to stay unspoiled, can see them.

*** HOW DO I?... QUESTIONS ABOUT THE BOARD FUNCTIONS ***

Most questions about board functionality can be answered by clicking on the FAQ button at the top right hand corner of every page on these boards. Please look there before asking a question of that nature. Below are the most popular ones.

How do I get a cute picture under my name when I post?
The answer is in the other FAQ or check out our useful Help With Avatars thread.

Can someone make an avatar for me?
It's very possible! Please post in the Avatar Request Thread in any of the Fan Art forums.

How do I get custom text under my name in my posts?
Yet another thing found in the other FAQ.

    What's a "PM"? (Private Message)
It's like your own personal messaging system right here on the forums that only you and the other people corresponding with you can see.

How do I send or receive a Private Message?
    See here.

I put in a sig file in my profile, but don't see it when I post. Am I doing something wrong?
We disabled the sigfile feature in 2004 and have no plans to reinstitute it. We like it better this way =) Unfortunately, to remove that field from the profile form would require an extensive database hack, and we just haven't gotten around to doing it.

How do I insert an image into my post?
Check out our thread on inserting images into posts and make sure to check out the Kryptonsite rules on posting images.

*** THE QUIRKS, LINGO AND CULTURE OF THE KSITE BOARDS ***

How come you guys have so many rules?
As of this writing, there are nearly 25,000 users on this forum. On our busiest days, nearly a million people per day visit Kryptonsite. Chaos is really not such a great idea, so we have a measly 21 general rules for you guys to follow, and a few more for each particular forum.

Why can't I see the members list even though it's an option?
For the sake of our users' online privacy, we made the member list private. However, you can still search for a username in the SEARCH function.

What are the different user ranks?
The different user ranks and how they are determined can be found here.

Why are the names of other fan sites censored on the boards?
It sort of defeats the purpose of posting on THIS board if all you're going to do is talk about OTHER boards, hmmm? It's basically to prevent ongoing arguing, discussing, analysis, etc. of a board other than our own. Most of them have the same rule, don't worry.

What do all those different acronyms I see everywhere stand for?
They are all explained in the OMGWTH!!! thread.

What on earth is a Chlark, Clana or Clex?
That's an old tradition in online fandom. It's the squishing of two character names together to get one name for a relationship. Chloe+Clark=Chlark. (And here you thought there'd be no math here!) To see what all the shipper names are, please visit DaddyLion's ultrainformative thread here

    Who the heck is "AlMiles?"
It's our pet "ship" name for Al Gough and Miles Millar, the two creators of Smallville, coined by Tigress35.

Why can we still not use curse words in the Adult Fan Fiction Forums?
You actually sort of can. Please see the Rules Of This Forum thread tacked up in each Adult Fan Fiction forum for details.

For the love of all that's holy, what is that WAH/LAH/RW/KGI thread about?
It's basically our chatters' thread in the Kryptonsite Culture forum. People have ongoing conversations about anything and everything there. Read the last page to see what it's currently up to. And for the record, the acronym stands for: Wuvs and Hugs/ Love and Hugs/ Real World/ Kryptonsite Garden Institute. It is an institution here, and it's been there so long, no one can remember who started it, what it means or why it's called that, so don't bother to ask.

    That's all, folks!
