I've written about this a few years ago somewhere around here. The problem with FOTW is also that sometimes their rationale and actions make sense and sometimes they don't. Jeff can be invisible. The embarrassing things he could do to her sister's tormentor are countless. Instead he simply attacks him with a lifting iron. And drowning Victoria? Would that suddenly make Lex fall in love with a 14year old? (okay, maybe - Lana is the same age and he married her )
Only one week later you have Bob Rickman who uses his skills ruthlessly but also efficiently. He tries to pursuade the EPA/CEP (don't remember if the used the actual or the fictional name in that episode) guy first and then disposes of a perceived threat. Even though he mind-tricks Jonathan into selling, he pays three times market value. Why? Because he is still good hearted? No. Because it would make any court case that much harder. JK's lawyer would have to argue that JK got screwed over by getting thrice the money the land was worth? Good luck with that.
Yeah but then again, he would have to say no to Lana. He probably wouldn't have a problem saying no to Melanie Finkelstein.
