  • Lex's evilness is inversly proportional to his intelligence

Or it could just be another example of lazy writing. There were a few stupid things involving Lex on this episode:

    1) Why would Lex be testing an extremely powerful naval weapon system in a Kansas Lake? While trying to keep it under wraps? While the public is obviously still swimming in the lake?

    2) Why does Lex leave his top secret files laying in his unguarded laboratory that is obviously not difficult to gain access to?

    3) Why does Lex never have security cameras installed where Clark uses his powers?

    4) Why does Lex keep allowing Clark to wander into his mansion?

And not really stupid on the part of Lex, but...

    5) Why are people in Smallville always so willing to dismiss the fact that they or someone they know is drugged, kidnapped, and/or detained by someone else on a weekly basis?

I agree with poin #5 totally. The charcters in this show live extraordnairy lives where people routinely lose their memory, develop strange powers, become posessed by witches, and cheat death. But for me there are so many facets of the show that make up for all of the stupidity

I do agree with most of your post, but this point make wonder, because Clark is so fast that I think the cameras wouldn't quite be able to capture that.

It seems whenever they try to make Lex more evil, they try to make him seem more stupid. It's bizarre. In Onyx he acted irrationally and irresponsibly once turned to the bad side - not morally speaking, but with his actions and the risk of getting caught or not being subtle enough to gain true knowledge to use to his advantage, like Lex normally would.

Maybe his powers of subtley will increase the longer he lives under a yellow sun

            1) He thinks that tipping the balance of naval power trumps any concern for the little people -- fish included.

            2) It was the day all of his security guards had a 'professional development day' to learn how to arm the new security system.

            3) See number 2. The old system had to be disabled. Oops, Lex.

            4) Lex hasn't changed his ADT system code since 2001 and Clark's been there enough times to see Lex punch it in. Clark's had the keys to the kingdom for a long, long time.

            5) They don't want to admit that their town is full of meteor freaks, psychopaths and an eccentric billionnaire bent on world domination. Ignorance is bliss. OR: The amnesia dude has been at it again .....

The biggest shock is that Aquadude got the upper hand on Lex! Lex's "evil genius" street-cred went down a couple of notches after this episode, IMO.
