Two kids who just graduated HS =/= "Adults".
They are both 18, one girl has lived in Paris and developed a long term relationship, and owned her own coffee shop, the other saves lifes on a regular basis and has been through more traumatic experiences than most people do in their lifes, I consider that to be enough to call them adults, so why bother to try reducing both of the to 'two kids'?

    Er...yes?
    Er... Why?

I think the phrase is "the proof is in the pudding". Rather: How were the ratings? Soft-core porn is not mandatory for high ratings, I'm afraid.
I don't know how the ratings were, could you show me? All I know is we haven't seen anything sexy since Clark and Lana got together, it all seems to be romantic and lovey dovey so far, which parts were rating grabbers?

It's more a matter of character development, really, than it is a matter of "is it OK for Clark to have sex"?

I think it was IMPORTANT that Clark NOT remain a virgin simply because he needs the full range of human experience before he can truly be Superman in the modern (SV) context.

His mortality contained a full range of emotional and physical experience, and now he is well-equipped to progress toward being the champion of humanity.
    I agree.

There are plenty of "humans" who wait until marriage. It's called good judgement. Now that premarital sex is such a "part" of our modern lifestyle we aslo have more abortions and unwed single mothers on welfare. Regardless of religion it's best to wait asd long as possible. This is only my opinion though.

I don't think it's best to wait "as long as possible" but that it's best to wait for the right time, place and person and circumtances.

I don't think Clark/Lana was the right person, and I know it wasn't the right time or circumstances. Place was good when it was her apartment, but not good in his parents' home.

I'll concede to that view on a secular level. But my theory is that if you are ready to have sex then you should be ready to have a child. Despite Ageless I don't think either of them are or were ready for that. Just my opinions. Oh and I'm for the he should wait for Lois. But I don't thinkl it's that big of a deal, it is tv after all

It wouldn't make sense to wait "as long as possible" - because then you'd keep waiting even if you were ready to have a child.

And you can be resposible and capable of raising a child (or putting one up for adoption) and not want a child or be married and not be able to afford a (or another) child.

What I mean is, don't wait just purely for the sake of waiting.

Personally, I don't think Pre-Marital sex is a good idea. Thats just me.

The only thing that bothers me about them having sex is that I don't look at them quite the same. Not as innocent, but in a way I was saying to myself..."well its about time!"

What is responsible about putting a child up for adoption cause one is not "ready"? Well I can't deal with it so I'll just give the baby away....I don't think so. I would prefer that all children have a chance at life versus abortion but to just give a child away hoping that a family will take him or her is immature and cold. I think responsible adults can do the deed as often as they like just as long as they are prepared to pay the consequences of their actions. Sex doesn't always lead to pregnancy but if it does then those who are having sex should be mature enough to care for that child and not just abort or give him or her away.

Again, a major issue I have with the portrayal of sex in "Smallville" (and this is something I will be adding to my essay now that I've seen how it played out) is that it's linked to Clark finally becoming "normal." I've said it in similar threads, and I'll say it here: the big deal about this plotline was that Clark is finally "normal" and "just like everyone else," so what does he do? He runs off to have sex with Lana. Because in order to be "normal," you have to have sex. Because if you don't have sex, you're not "normal." Etc., etc. This contributes to the "everybody does it" mentality that's so pervasive in our society. We don't need to impress this message upon the show's target audience... Especially using Superman to push such an irresponsible line.

I blame "The Wonder Years"... If Kevin and Winnie didn't do the deed when they were stuck at that farm... I doubt it would be accepted as it is today on television.

a very wise person once told me you should wait to have sex until you can look at that person and say i'd really like to have a child that looks just like them. that being said i'd bang tom welling like a salvation army drum.

Can we please stop with the premarital sex threads? They really accomplish nothing. Some people think one way, some the other and these threads do nothing to convince either side of the other's validity. All it results in is bickering.

bickering? I see a lot of people sharing their opinions and people respectfully listening and not much bashing. I want to know what others think whether it is my view of sex in marriage or others view of sex for fun or sex for love or whatever. To me, I see a lot of maturity on this thread. anyone agree?

Its not that in order to be normal he had to have sex, its that he could finally be with her without lying about who he really was. The lies are what kept them apart. When he lost his powers he didn't have to lie anymore.

I personally don't believe in premarital sex but this is just a television show and I can see how it can make the storyline stronger. I don't think a person would base their life decisions off of a show they saw on TV, or at least I hope they wouldn't.

I think people put sex up onto too high a pedestal, it really isn't that big a deal, especially in this day and age. Maybe if people stopped making such a fuss over it young people wouldn't be dying to find out just what the fuss is all about.
I also wonder just how relevant any opinion on this subject is when it comes from someone who actually has never had sex. Who are they to dictate to anyone what sex is or should be about when they have never done it?
The way I see it Clark and Lana are way more virtuous than the majority of real world teens of the same age. The average age that people have sex is a lot younger than 18, females actually have it at a younger age than males.
Smallville is about Clark becoming Superman set in our present, not some 50 to 60 years ago and the reality is most people their age and in their situation would have had sex by now, if not years before.
Clark loves Lana and if you can't see that then you are blind, I can only assume you just don't want to see it. I find it rediculous that people even suggest that Clark was underhanded with Lana just so that he could get her into bed, another situation of believing what you want to believe imo.
