Being a new computer it definitely sounds like a codec issue. You need codec for media programs to properly play video and audio file types. Codec packs often allow for more file type playback and for programs like video makers to process correctly or convertors to convert.
the pack by Shark007 is the one i am using. So i am gonna have you try this first.. You can download the pack directly from this link here, its a safe download - http://www.majorgeeks.com/Win7codecs_d5959.html Download and run the installer. It should the work for you. After that I recommend restarting you computer and seeing how the program behaves. If it still doesn't work let me know. It might mean you have to tell the power director too recognize the codec, which is something I can research

oh , just reinstalled it myself as its an updated version. When you are installing this you can decline all the offers it makes for other programs you DON"T have to accept those to install it
