THE BOOK OF BOBA FETT, A NEW SERIES, COMING DECEMBER 2021 ON DISNEY+ THE LEGEND WILL RETURN NEXT YEAR.

Boba Fett is back. And his story is just beginning.

As teased in a surprise end-credit sequence following the season finale of The Mandalorian, the legendary bounty hunter’s journey will continue in The Book of Boba Fett. Jon Favreau, executive producer of The Mandalorian, confirmed today on Good Morning America that the new series is currently in production and will arrive December 2021, only on Disney+.

The Book of Boba Fett will be set within the timeline of The Mandalorian and star Temuera Morrison as the titular bounty hunter, along with Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand. Robert Rodriguez — who directed Chapter 14 of The Mandalorian, a thrilling installment that reintroduced Boba Fett to the Star Wars galaxy — joins Favreau and Dave Filoni as executive producer.

Boba Fett made his big-screen debut in 1980’s Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, becoming an instant fan favorite thanks to his visually arresting armor and cool demeanor. Jeremy Bulloch, the original actor inside the armor, passed away last week — but his legacy, including all he brought to Boba Fett, goes on. The Book of Boba Fett will carry that legacy forward.

"Chapter 1: Stranger in a Strange Land"
It's not the fact that I didn't recognize Jennifer Beals as Garsa (until I saw the end credits), that I find emberacing (I thought that she looked familiar, but couldn't place her), it's the fact that I was watching the episode on a television, over which there is a framed Flashdance poster (d'oh).

Fun seeing some flashbacks to Attack of the Clones. No sign of Omega, but, like I've noted on the Bad Batch thread, Omega and Boba needs to be something dealt with on that show.

Not sure how to feel about the extended flashback sequences. It' something that was needed. After all, we saw Boba fall into the Sarlacc in Return of the Jedi. Then we next see him on The Mandalorian, where another guy's got his armor. We didn't see/know the connective tissue. At the same time, one wants them to focus on the story in the present. Who were those space ninjas (I'll call them that)? Who sent them? I did like that new sand creature. Don't think that we've ever seen one of those before. I always appreciate when we get to see something new.

Chapter 1: Stranger in a Strange Land

I’m still amazed how a character that originally was given less than five of minutes screen time became such an iconic character in the entire franchise. I mean his reintroduction/role in The Mandalorian was bigger than what we ever saw in the original films and now with the continuation of his story we’re getting more Boba Fett than we’ve ever gotten.

What a way to start the series by showing us how he escaped the sarlacc pit. How he managed to dig himself out of that creature only to collapse, have his armor stolen from the Jawas and get captured by Tusken Raiders and than try to escape his captors was just a great open to the series. We probably won’t see The Mandalorian in this season but hopefully they align the series at some point.

Building an empire is not going to be an easy feet for Boba Fett especially if he’s trying a different approach than his predecessors. Ruling with respect is definitely going to be a challenge as we saw with those men ambushing them (presumably hired by someone challenging his rule). It’s a good thing that those Gamorreans pledged their allegiance to Fett and were able to assist.

The only nitpick I have about the first episode is just the armor looking so brand spanking new even with dents on it. I liked the gritty in the original franchise (granted that was a different era in film making and the technology wasn’t as advanced).

Overall, great start to the series. I can’t wait to see where the series will go from here.

Rewatching the episode, I realized something that I forgot to bring up:
I quite like Garsa's establishment. I think that it's much better than the casino in The Last Jedi, which felt more like something you'd expect to see in Star Trek and not Star Wars. Garsa's place feels like Star Wars. There's also a few cameos, like Max Rebo from Return of the Jedi, and the droid from the Star Tours ride.
"Chapter 2: The Tribes of Tatooine"
Fennec: "You need permission to kill a Hutt."

Leia: "Well, I'd say that Jabba gave me premission, when he forced me to wear that bikini."

The human couple, who gets hassled by those bikers, are quite interesting. They are Camie Marstrap and Laze "Fixer" Loneozner. Two of Luke Skywalker's friends, from A New Hope, who ended up on the cutting room floor. I'm guessing that they'll play some role in future episodes. I would've expected Jabba's son (from the Clone Wars movie) to be attempting to claim his father's throne, not Jabba's cousins. No sign of Omega, during the brief Kamino flashback. But, let's face it, Boba and Omega are unlikely to have grown up together (or even spent time together).

              Additional thoughts (Chapter 2):
I thought that wookiee looked familiar, but couldn't place him. It looks to be Black Krrsantan from the Star Wars comics. He's connected to Dr. Aphra, but I doubt that they'll have her show up on this show. Not unless they end up with some plot requiring an archeologist.

Looking at the end credit art work, they clearly took inspiration from Lawrence of Arabia (1962), with the train attack. In fact, I'd say that the show might've taken several inspirations from that film. I was certainly thinking about Lawrence of Arabia, when Boba put on the Tusken robes.

Chapter 2: The Tribes of Tatooine

Ok, I’m not sure what to make of this show after two episodes. The first episode was a good premiere (after watching it a third time my initial like of it slipped); they showed us what we all wanted to see (him getting out of the Sarlacc pit) than not much really happened.

This latest episode started interesting enough with the mayor and than Jabba’s cousins (the twins) proclaiming their family territory was theirs…with a bit of muscle behind them. And I guess the Wookie Gladiator is a character of some note…a “Black Krrsantan”; no clue who he was, but he looked badass.

Boba Fett goes back to his pod…cuing up the flashback for the rest of the episode. It felt like they should have added the beginning of this episode to the end of the first and than focus this second episode on the Tusken Raiders’ flashback.

So Fett earns the respect of the Tusken Raiders after he helps them attack a train run by the “Pyke Syndicate”. They than gift Fett with a prophetic lizard which leads him on spiritual journey. When he returns he carries with him a branch that he uses in the creation of his own gaffe stick. There after he participates in a fire pit ceremony where he dances ritualistically with the others.

I guess this series will be a slow burn…but hoping it picks up. Can we at least take a break from the flashback for an episode focusing on his current situation with the Hutts and the mayor.

Okay, a bit of an odd theory about whom actress Sophie Thatcher will be portraying: the daughter of Qi'ra and Han Solo (concieved either shortly before Han's escape from Corellia, or offscreen during the events of Solo). Given Boba and Han's experiences with each other, in the OT, Boba interacting with Han Solo's kid could make for an interesting dynamic (Boba: "YOU'RE WHOSE DAUGHTER?!"). A while back, I talked about the possibility of Alden Ehrenreich returning to play the son of Qi'ra and Han. However, Ehrenreich playing Han's kid, would likely result in the character just being seen as a carbon copy of Han Solo (he's so much like his father, that he even looks and sounds exactly like him). Also, Han already has a son with Leia. A daughter with Qi'ra would mix things up a bit.

Looking at a still of Thatcher's character, I can sort of picture her as Qi'ra's daughter. Thatcher would also be age-appropriate to play their child (convieved about 19 or 22 years before this). Then there's the rumor that
Harrison Ford
will make an appearance.

I think this show stretches the limits of how much Star Wars fans, new and even old, care about the Tuskan Raiders.

Also, Boba Fett became a beloved character due to his mysterious nature and the fact that we never saw his face. I undertand that this is now what they are doing with Mando, but I can't say I am thrilled to watch Boba maskless in every scene.

All that said, the show has an interesting premise of doing past and present storylines simultaneously (like Arrow did for seasons 1-5), it answered some key questions (like how Boba escaped the Sarlacc Pit) and it features the delightful Ming-Na Wen.

                      Chapter 3.
Somehow I doubt this is the last we'll see of Black Krrsantan.

Okay, it looks like Sophie Thatcher's character is named Drash (based on the credit for her stunt double). I kind of liked her. There is no Legends character by that name, but there is a place called Drash-So. The site of a prison labor camp, that once held a woman named Ania Solo (a descendant of Han).

Thought that there was something Crimson Dawn over Drash's knife. I'm sticking with my theory that she will turn out to be the daugther of Han and Qi'ra.

They keep doing that flashback to Boba's childhood. I wonder about the significance.

Chapter 3: The Streets of Mos Espa

I don’t know if I like how they seem to start off each episode with current day antics only to go to flashback troupe…fortunately, I’m glad somebody was listening and the flashback only lasted for a few scenes in the episode.

Boba Fett hires a bunch of teenagers without even proving their worth to him; guess he’s looking for people with character.

It literally took all of them to actually trap Krrsantan…he was definitely a beast of a Wookie. One short of killing him, there’s no way that any of them could have beaten him. I hope it’s not the last we see of him.

I can’t believe how casual the interaction was with the twins. They flat out told Fett that they sent Krrsantan to kill him. They apologized and gifted him a new ride. They even managed to give him fair warning about the mayor. I still wouldn’t believe what they said either.

When Danny Trejo showed up it took me out of the show. He’s a terrible actor; his persona is much bigger than his actual acting skills. It was just an unnecessary scene that any other half decent actor could have done in his place.

It seems like the things are slowly coming together. I won’t be surprised if it’s revealed that the Pyke Syndicate hired the Kintan Striders to kill the Tusken Raider tribe. It’ll be revealed in a flashback that Boba Fett has had a very complex plan to get rid of all his competition and in the process get revenge on those responsible for the death of the tribe that took him in at his lowest.

One thing is for sure after three episodes, it’s a safe bet to say that The Mandalorian is the better Star Wars series thus far.

Boba: "I want to ride a rancor."

                          Omega: "Been there, done that."

Speaking of that. Whatever happened to that rancor? Because the one in RotJ was a different one.

Danny Trejo was a surprisingly good guest star on The Flash. He fit the tone of the show quite well. We can't say the same here. That said, looks wise who better to portray a Tatooine human who trains Rancors?

I'll say what I said about the Raiders. There's only so much interest one can have in Tatooine acts that appeared in the OT as one off side characters. So hopefully they won't drag out the thing with the Rancor too much. This show will have worked out a lot better if Boba could move around more. Why not have him go back to Kamino, for example?

All in all it was the strongest episode until now. The twins kind of flipped the script and now I am curious who they warned Boba about. Probably a very tiny chance, but I am wondering if The First Order is beginning to surface.

Yeah, Tatooine was likely conceived as that small town you grew up in, and dreamed about leaving. As we see with Luke in A New Hope, he is frustrated with living there. He outright says: "Well, if there's a bright center to the universe, you're on the planet that it's farthest from".

Seen some criticism that the Mods (as they're called in the audio description, and are clearly based upon) doesn't fit into Tantooine. Though, personally, I wouldn't be surprised if this gang hails from elsewhere, with Mos Espa being a space port (an X amount of the population are probably not born on this planet). If my theory about Drash (Sophie Thatcher) is correct, she probably came to Tantooine looking for her father (Han Solo), and got stuck there.

Why not have him go back to Kamino, for example?
I'm going to assume that you haven't seen the last two episodes of The Bad Batch: The Empire bombed the hell out of it (destroying and sinking the cities), ca. 30 years before the events of this show. There wouldn't be anything for him to go back to on Kamino. Just oceans and a handful of blown apart ruins popping out of said oceans.
