Maybe only good thing of focusing on Olcity/Felicity instead of Oliver/Laurel

Is that they don't screw up Oliver/Laurel anymore then they already had. Because Olicty is pairing that is screwed up due to the writing, not the actual pairing of Oliver and Felicity.

Imagine it being Laurel walking out on Oliver in 4x15 at his lowest point after breaking off their engagement and complaining she wasn't included with anything William related?

Imagine Laurel being the one to constantly undermine Oliver's authority as Team leader or say Oliver and Laurel ran off together at the end of season 3, but Laurel kept secretly checking in behind Oliver's back. Like if the whole Ray thing with building The Atom suit was Laurel helping Ray then lies to Team Arrow when Diggle asks her if she knows anything about who the guy is in the new Atom suit.

Or like say if Laurel joins up with a terrorist organization and betrays everybody on the Team then helps a terrorist leader escape but gets taken back in to Team Arrow with zero consequences and is never arrested for her crimes. Plus all the stuff like in the 4x06 where it's Laurel who mentally abuses Oliver?

You would have Laurel and the Oliver/Laurel with being disliked just as much. Or look at Barry and Iris over on The Flash, the Barry/Iris relationship melodrama and how Flash has now more of became revolved around Iris being the central focus instead. Mind the focus on Iris is not as bad as Felicity and such but still not the best either. Andrew and Greg would have screwed up Oliver/Laurel and well Laurel as well, like they have done on The Flash.

Sure maybe the upcoming Arrowverse crossover would have a double Barry/iris and Oliver/Laurel wedding instead of Olicty wedding, if the rumors are true but still you would have the same problem that you would with Olicty.

Of course maybe being Oliver/Laurel all of the issues would be just brushed under the rug because it would be "It's the comic pairing, Oliver/Laurel can do no wrong. They fit together because it's the comics pairing, you can't argue with the source material."

So bottom line, if they wrote Oliver/Laurel, Oliver/Sara or Oliver/Helena or any other Oliver/woman pairing the way they have done Olicty or Barry/Iris over on The Flash, I would find the same exact issues with it.

The entire Arrowverse needs new writers because at the end of the day that's where the ultimate problem lies.

I agree 100%. At the very least they need to bring in new writers who knows how to write the romantic stuff, while letting the current writers do the rest of the scenes with things like the action, etc.

Because let's face it... the CW writers doesn't seem to know how to do pairings right, despite the fact that the CW higher-ups seem to be utterly obsessed with shipping.

Come to think of it, Maybe the problem is the higher-ups and not the writers? At least half the time. After all it's not just the DC shows that has a problem with shipping people together. it seems that the CW directive is to pander to teenagers and they assume that all teenagers are lovestruck shippers who demand that people be together right away instead of having a nice buildup to it.

Except the part where you forget that Olicity was originally a fanservice, fan created ship and Felicity is a mary sue, creator pet and also once a hugely popular character. Problems that are only unique to Olicity, and no other relationship on the show. So for the most part its Felicity/Olicity thats uniquely the problem. They would never have writen Oliver/Laurel the same because lauriver does not have a huge imposing fanbase, and the writers didnt obsess over Laurel like they do Felicity. So they would have written Lauriver and Laurel more objectively and not how they "fanfiction" write Olicity. True, they made a fatal writing mistake with the Lauriver backstory, but going forward Lauriver couldnt have been as toxic to the show as Olicity became. Nothing could be as toxic to a show as Felicity & Olicity.

Laurel would never have done all the things you listed above as she was a compassion character and not power hungry, hypocritical and narcissistic like Felicity . And I repeat Laurel was not a creator pet and a character with a huge imposing fanbase. The writers had no drive or motive to exalt her above everyone and everything else.

Mind the focus on Iris is not as bad as Felicity and such but still not the best either. Andrew and Greg would have screwed up Oliver/Laurel and well Laurel as well, like they have done on The Flash.

Yes Westallen and Lauriver have and had writing problems too, but none comparable to Olicity's and thats the point. Its not that the other relationships are perfect, its that Olicity has done & does more damage. Arrow writers can write romance decently,look how maturely and healthily Thea/Roy was written. Ignoring their bad history, even Sara/Oliver worked for the brief time they were put together. So its not that they cant ever write romance well, its that Felicity & Olicity & Olicity fandom brings out the absolute worst in the writers!

In Conclusion. Any woman is better for Oliver than Felicity, any ship is better for Arrow than Olicity.
