Question: Do we know where exactly Black Lightning will be set? —Josh
    Ausiello:
We actually have an update for you on this front. The show will now be set in Freeland, a fictional city — not Atlanta or NOLA.

That's really interesting, since New Orleans was a big deal they tried to make in pre-production when they moved to The CW. I guess having to shoot in Atlanta dealt their hand.

How important is it that this series establishes its own identity outside of the Arrowverse?

It was important because if you take a look of the superhero shows…. I asked myself “if there was a Superman, why has Superman never tried to clean up Watts or Chicago? Why do superheroes never seem to answer the call of regular people?” There’s so much violence in the world, just on a very grounded and base level of every day folk. In real America, the Opioid addiction is running rampant. Where are the superheroes? And so to me, it was important to put the superhero in a place where we all recognized, and fighting folk that we recognize, so that we could talk about it but also, we didn’t want violence to be arbitrary and distant. I wanted it to be close and in your face...
Hopefully this means in this show we won't have any nonsense like a nuclear bomb exploding in the country, and then everyone apparently forgetting about it or not considering it that big of a deal (yes, Arrow, Guggenheim et al. I'm looking at you)

Black Lightning: How soon will Jefferson learn about his kids having powers and then suiting up? —Nicole

Though the release of a first look at Thunder, coupled with new Episode 3 stills, would suggest that eldest daughter Anissa is on the verge of fighting herself some crime, the show bosses won’t pin down a timeframe. “You’ve got to watch,” hedges EP Mara Brock Akil. “But it does happen this season.” In the meantime, Nafessa Williams says, “You’ll see in the first episodes [Anissa’s] struggle, with her powers and not being able to tell anybody. How do I keep this a secret? Are people going to think I’m crazy?” (Episode 2, in particular, finds her trying to properly explain the shattered sink to her girlfriend Chenoa, played by Shein Mompremier.) “She’s unsure as to what is even happening, she doesn’t even know how to articulate it with anyone.”

Any idea when we’ll see Thunder suit up on Black Lightning? —Michele C.
Actually, you will see Anissa (played by Nafessa Williams) suit up this Tuesday night — though her first instinct about what to wear quickly proves to be, um, battle un-ready. What she then gets properly fitted for, thanks to a super-helpful boutique clerk (and colorful latex), is pretty fabulous for a “beta” costume. And that’s not even counting what she does with her hair….
