Awwww. Darhk is literally beaten with the power of love, how adorable.

Felicity reminded me more tonight of season 2 Felicity. One of my favorite scenes with her has always been her hitting Isobel with the van and commenting about the air bags not going off, so I got a good laugh at her running down those two Hive members. I figured something was going to happen with the drugs they showed in the previously on Arrow scenes, and now we know that they're drugging Alex.

          Some general observations for now.

This was one of the more intense episodes they've had on Arrow, focused more on the secondary roster members: Diggle and Thea. The opening shootout was quite brutal -- Diggle wasn't playing games, he was shooting to kill. Diggle fans have got to watch this ep. Won't get into it much for now due to some pretty big spoilers for the west coasters, but this was a solid Diggle episode. Lyla once again proves she's one of the toughest characters on the show.

Some of the haziness surrounding the Thea - Alex subplot begins to be lifted, as we get a clearer picture of what Genesis is and the scope of Darhk's master plan. The Diggle and Thea subplots were among the stronger ones in this ep.

Ollie trying to find his magical mojo was almost a sideshow in comparison. Yes, he needs it to battle Darhk but the whole subplot took away from what was otherwise a really intense episode. It's entirely possible this was intentional (the humorous moments in Ollie's magical road trip), considering all the real-life and emotional stuff that was hitting the fan every which way during the rest of the ep.

And depending on how you feel about Felicity and/or Olicity, you'll either be glad there was a glimpse of pre-S3 Felicity's wit when romance out of the equation, or annoyed that she was a factor in Ollie gaining that magical mojo/light/hope when he did face off against Darkh. Ollie finding his inner light and avoiding the darkness is a theme that they're pushing pretty heavily going into the S4 finale. (And just to fact-check ahead of time: Ollie also mentioned Laurel, Diggle, etc. as helping him find that magical goodness within him, so it wasn't just a Felicity monopoly on being his spiritual flashlight.)

All I can say is that Diggle enters his own "S1 Hood" era tonight, and just to see that (and David and Audrey bring it in every one of their scenes) this would be one ep. not to skip.

Fantastic episode. Ditching the flashbacks made room for a great story. Lady Fortuna was a tad campy but somehow she made all the silly magic stuff work. Great casting.

Some great new stunts, fun sub plots, lots of Lyla, cute Sara, really intense and well acted stuff between the brothers Diggle. One complaint, men that are brothers REALLY should not be calling each other a son of a b!tch. Happy Mother's Day everyone!

A bit better than recent weeks, not that it means a lot anymore. This season imo has already fallen flat and I'm just waiting for the misery to end.

              - The most interesting storyline in this episode revolved around the Diggles. It was certainly very intense and with a couple of intriguing twists. I have zero issues with John offing his brother. I mean, what other choice did Andy give him? He attacked him and his family with a freaking rocket launcher and claimed he would attack them over and over again. Obviously John would be crushed at what he had to do, but this is where melodrama rears its ugly head in: Diggle lies to Lyla about what actually happened. Why? Because someone on this show always has to lie about something? Once again, Audrey Marie Anderson was a real joy to have on the show.

              - The Oliver/magic stuff could have been better. But it wasn't of course because Felicity had to be shoehorned into the whole thing. Ugh. Her constant chipping in during the cave scene was groan worthy. What was also funny (in a ridiculous kind of way) was the flashbacks sequence Oliver had of his darkest moments: Ra's stabbing him, Tommy dying, his parents dying, Laurel dying and...Felicity breaking up with him. ROFL! Hey, if you want to include Felicity, show her when she's just being shot and Oliver is holding her devastated. Surely that was a tougher moment for him than a damn breakup? Anyway, Oliver repeling Darhk's magic and fighting him off was cool. At last. And thankfully, Oliver said it was because he heard John, Thea and Laurel in his head egging him on. And not just Felicity. Of course, that was counter acted by Felicity saving Diggle and Sara earlier in the episode. Because she still has to save the day somehow.

              - The Thea/Alex storyline was utterly predictable. Did anyone honestly think Alex wouldn't have an agenda at some point? At least he isn't as horrible to watch as Chase the DJ. What's also unoriginal is Thea being in peril. It seems to happen every season around this time of the year.

              - 20 episodes in and we FINALLY find out what Genesis is about. It's pretty generic and repetitive, but at least it's on a larger scale compared to the previous 3 "destroy the city" season long arcs. Will they ever explain what each phase of Genesis was about though? We've heard about 5 stages in a vague manner and the only one they ever went into detail about was the Phase 3: Taking over city hall. Which, if you think about it, was pointless. Why did HIVE need a Star City mayor of their own if they planned to steal technology from ARGUS that would help them nuke the planet? Not sure which storyline was more sloppy this season: Genesis or Zoom and his time remnant infiltrating Star Labs.

              - Can we get Gabriella Wright as Esrin Fortuna back asap please?

              5/10

This made me laugh. Seriously, is this some teenage romance drama show, where a grown man's darkest moments is a freaking break up?

Mediocre episode at best. I liked the Diggle/Andy/Lyla plot. Esrin Fortuna was awesome too. That's the only good parts.
Arrow is doing horrible, and other dc tv shows like The Flash is miles ahead in the quality storylines they are giving.

The Olicity fern thing was disgusting. Prove Arrow is now a fan-service show, by catering to shippers.

It was a decent episode, but it had things that were irritating, like the love fern reference, and the fact that Felicity breaking up with Oliver is equated, in his mind, to the many people he's lost to DEATH.

Amusingly enough, this episode did prove that the flashbacks actually detract from the show now. Without the flashbacks, each character of the present day was allowed to shine in their own way.

I found the Diggle family story and Thea's awareness cluing her into something not being right far more interesting, and luckily, those were the focus of the episode.

Still not sure how much I care for the Olicity romance possibly returning, but IF Oliver and Felicity continue to have more mature conversations like they did here, and talk to one another as equals instead of keeping secrets (Oliver) and overriding any attempt to explain (Felicity), I can see myself POSSIBLY getting behind it. That doesn't mean I still don't think Guggenheim needs to get canned.

I like the fact that they brought up the fact that Star City is a nexus like the Island, giving it as the reason Darhk chose Star City rather than, say, Metropolis.

6/10. Decent development of characters all around, but still a bit too much fan service for my tastes and I don't like how Felicity basically invited herself along and continues to do things that show her as an irresponsible CEO. I'm sure Olicity fans find the whole thing where she charges it all to the corporate accounts and taking the corporate jet as 'funny' and 'quirky', but if you take a look in the news, plenty of CEOs and other company officials get their butts reamed out over doing stuff like that (using company funds/vehicles for personal projects). To Mr. Dennis, it would look like a woman desperate to re-establish a relationship with her ex. We know it isn't, but to the outside? Especially when said ex's family are the FORMER OWNERS of the company?

I agree, with the Felicity scene they should have used the one where he's pulling her out of the limo when he was thinking of everyone he lost.

Felicity really had no business tagging along to the casino...also her wits still annoy me. She's not Ollie's gf anymore so knock it off with the its me I'm not anyone else bs. Liked how Ollie's light wasn't just Felicity but thea, diggle and Laurel...liked the episode mostly

Arrow has the series lowest ever for 4x20. 2.08 viewers, and demo of 0.7. Even worse than 4x16 Broken hearts, which was the series previous lowest.

Ratings are taking a dip. Marc Guggenheim was acting smug last week, by retweeting the increase in ratings of arrow twice, to show Laurel fans. He must be looking very stupid now.

He did? Wow. Obviously Guggie's never heard the old saying "Keep your words short and sweet because you might have to eat them".

The ratings drop seems natural to me. The season was a bust even before Laurel died and they did little to endear themselves to some fans since Eleven-Fifty-Nine.

Good I hope they keep staying low so changes and revaluation for season 5 are made...including Laurel ...get Oliver back on his own mostly.

*chuckles* So, the ratings did drop after the send-off episode for Laurel after all.... I guess he never thought that people might consider the funeral episode as the send-off one....

I can't wait to see how things play out in the next few weeks as far as ratings go....
