  • Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

It's official...Spider-Man: Homecoming will swing into theaters next summer, Sony Pictures announced at CinemaCon, the annual exhibition trade show taking place this week in Las Vegas. To make the big reveal, the studio flew in Tom Holland, the English actor who is slipping into the wall-crawler’s spandex, fresh from the Hollywood red carpet of “Captain America: Civil War.”

Since this Spidey is in high school, does that mean the word "Homecoming" has a double meaning? I really hope this film doesn't center around a school dance or football game.

Yeah, they were saying that it is a double meaning...Spidey's "Homecoming" back to Marvel.

Actor Tony Revolori, who played Ralph Fiennes’ sidekick in the Wes Anderson-directed Grand Budapest Hotel, is joining the film. He'll play Peter's high school nemesis/enemy but, he's not a supervillain.

Marvel and Sony's upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming will have to stay on the hunt for a new big bad, Michael Keaton has dropped out of talks to play the villain.

Here is the link about Michael Keaton passing on the role.

I thought Tom Holland gave a good performance in Civil War, but I'll probably skip this one. Don't know about you, but I don't feel a need or an urge to watch a sixth Spider-Man movie (they pushed back Black Panther and Captain Marvel to make yet another Spider-Man movie). And then you have the fact that it'll center around the life and (likely stereotypical) problems of a 15-16 year old kid. Like Backward Galaxy noted, the title could reference to a school dance. So, part of the plot could concern Peter having trouble getting a date for the dance (not interested).

It would be awkward seeing Spider-Man and [insert villain here] duke it out in the middle of a high school dance lol

Apparently, Deadline is reporting that Michael Keaton has already closed the deal to appear as the villain Vulture. Other sites are saying he's still negotiating but, a deal is close at hand.

Deadline is reporting that Michael Barbieri is in negotiations to join the cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming. Barbieri who is 14 years old, was most recently cast in Sony’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Dark Tower; playing Timmy in that movie opposite Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. Heroic Hollywood was the first to report the news stating that the actor will play one of Peter’s friends; with a more detailed report coming from ComicBook.com saying the friend role is a new spin on Ganke, the best friend of the Miles Morales character in the Ultimate Spider-Man comics.
