• Zack Snyder confirms the theatrical release of 2017's Justice League would've included Martian Manhunter and the surprise reveal of his identity.

      This could've been interesting.

Though, now that the DC films are going their separate directions, why couldn’t we have a Harry Lennix/Martian Manhunter lead film? It could be a lower budgeted smaller film than say Flash or Cyborg film (neither of which are going anywhere anytime soon).

It could be a simple premise...he’s a private investigator solving a crime but, who just happens to be a shapeshifting alien among humans. Obviously the case takes a supernatural turn and through flashbacks we see his backstory unfold which could parallel the case. They’d have to do an origin story for a character like his.

        • It was, but I guess it was more important to destroy Snyder's vision and bring in Whedon with his slapstick comedy.

          • From CBR:

During his Man of Steel watch party with Henry Cavill, Justice League director Zack Snyder confirmed that his long-rumored cut of the film will be available to stream on HBO Max.

The project will arrive in 2021. There are still ongoing discussion taking place on whether it will be a four-hour director's cut or a six-part TV series. Snyder and his wife and producing partner Deborah Snyder are currently assembling the original postproduction crew to cut the project and finish visual effects. There is also a possibility that some of the original cast members will record new dialogue for the cut. The entire process is expected to cost $20-$30 million.
Yeah, but will they CGI Cavill's upper lip? No one wants to watch a movie without CGI lips.

            • This is honestly the best news I've heard in what's been a very crappy year.

Congratulations to Zack Snyder and all the fans who campaigned about this nonstop, no matter how much vitriol and mockery they endured.

              Now bring on the magic.

              • I'm hoping it does well. The Ultimate Addition of BvS was so much better than the theatrical version. This will probably be the same. Snyder was building something and WB and Joss Whedon stepped in and ruined the vision of the original artist of this universe. This feels reminiscent of what Disney ruining George Lucas' Star Wars.

                • In light of the revelations from Ray Fisher (Cyborg) of Whedon's allegedly toxic behaviour on-set with JL cast and crew, I think it's safer to say now that the accepted narrative from Whedon supporters/apologists, some critics (and some Marvel fanatics) that Whedon was there to "fix" the JL (and existentially the DCEU) was misconstrued to say the least.

It was Whedon that torpedoed and trashed the previous (and apparently meticulous) plans Snyder had for JL and the DCEU. Whether this was a directive from on-high in WB to make it more Marvel, or some smug mantle he assumed for himself going into it is moot, considering what the mood apparently was on-set. It wasn't pleasant.

In case you've sequestered yourself from all social media, in Fisher's words, Whedon's: "on-set treatment of the cast and crew of Justice League was gross, abusive, unprofessional, and completely unacceptable".

I realize that Whedon's creative output -- Buffyverse, Firefly, Avengers, etc. -- have been fan favourites for years and I guess it may be hard for some of his fans to separate their love for his work from the kind of person he is. It's long past time fans should make that conscious separation between what he's made creatively -- and his flawed, even repugnant, character as a person. The halo's been off his public image for awhile now and this just confirms the impression more and more people have about the guy.

Fisher pretty much revoked in public any praise he may have given to Whedon in the past while promoting the movie because of studio commitments. He did this with the knowledge that he is risking professional blowback in the industry for rocking the boat as it were. Snyder and writer Chris Terrio apparently had much more planned creatively for Victor Stone and his family -- and Whedon gutted it. It sounds like Fisher's issue was more than an actor merely being unhappy with the end product, although this is likely how TPTB will try to spin it.

And worse, he's alleged that Whedon essentially was "enabled" (Fisher's word) to continue this behaviour on-set by Geoff Johns and producer Jon Berg. It's unknown whether this means they actively encouraged it or just chose to do nothing about aka a sin of omission. Only Berg has refuted the claims to date. From his view, Fisher didn't want to say a catchphrase 'Booyah' that was from the Teen Titans cartoon. Fisher has said he never wanted Stone to be the lone, one-dimensional 'funny Black guy' in the movie.

It's a lot to digest, especially in the charged environment we find ourselves in, months into a pandemic with no end in sight. The whole snafu just reminds me of that old myth from Greek mythology about Icarus and wax wings.

For so long, the industry, devoted fandom, media have idolized and lionized everything Whedon said, did, created and brushed off any criticism thrown his way. He inexplicably got pass after pass from the lot of them -- for years -- to the point where they really believed the guy could do no wrong and (in essence) could fly up to the sun. He flew too close to the sun and he's fallen to earth.

The lesson of that Icarus myth was not that the wings were held together with wax, but one of hubris. It seems Whedon had loads of it, Fisher has called him out on it and the fallout is yet to be seen.

I wish the best for the Snyder Cut on HBO Max and that Fisher hopefully gets an amazing Cyborg solo movie in the end.

                  • Regarding Whedon's behavior. Listened to James Marsters on Michael Rosenbaum's podcast the other day, where Marsters recalled once being pushed up against a wall by Whedon, who then started yelling at him (as Whedon disliked Spike's popularity, which affected the show's story).

Then there is the longstanding allegations that Whedon fired Charisma Carpenter for getting pregnant (which affected season 4 of Angel).

Speaking of Alien Resurrection in 2005, Whedon blamed the film's failiure on the actors saying the lines wrong.

                    • Even more news just came out re: Buffy set.

Stunt coordinator Jeff Pruitt and stunt double Sophia Crawford (who were dating at the time, now married) alleged that they had a falling out with Whedon during their time on Buffy and Whedon's loyalists on set began to plot against them. As some sort of payback, Whedon gave Crawford an ultimatum: break-up with Pruitt or you're gone. She told him to F off and left. He gave a veiled threat that they'd never work in the business again and even tried to get them blacklisted within the industry after.

They endured in the business, but they also had stories about how they had job offers that would just vanish with no explanation. They called him "a real egomaniac who believed his own hype". Among the creepier allegations are that he had Pruitt's computers keylogged so that they had every email Pruitt had sent. I'm expecting more of these allegations to pop up from others.

News like this give even more credence to the claims of Charisma. It's really sad when we think back to how some "fans"/Whedon apologists (not feeling bad about calling them this at this point) would spin it as her being difficult, a diva, etc. Fans wanted him to be a nice guy and some sort of progressive icon, rejected any criticism leveled at him ... but the reality seems to be that he's not worthy of this sort of blind adulation.

The bubble began to burst back when Whedon's ex called him out on infidelities and using his so-called feminist cred as a cover for it. No surprise, that Whedon fan love-in site Whedonesque shut down shortly after.

For some reason, Whedon is reportedly still going ahead with his San Diego Comicon@home panel (?!). He'll either pull the plug on it at the last-minute, or if he really does believe he walks on water, will use that time to talk mostly about himself and the disastrous PR snafu he now finds himself in.

To bring it back to DCEU, Fisher probably could go into more details, but there's apparently a non-disclosure agreement in place. He's still officially Cyborg on any future projects, at least on paper, and seems to have support within the industry on speaking out. Interesting too that none of his JL castmates have come out to refute or challenge his allegations.

                        • Minor theory.
Last year, Snyder released some storyboards, from the film where two women are having coffee. After which, one of the women transforms into J'onn J'onzz, after the two are separated by a door. Looking at the trailer, it could be the conclusion of the Martha-Lois scene. In such a scenario, Diane Lane is actually playing J'onn J'onzz (posing as Martha Kent) at 1:04.
• I saw that movie. It was alright movie. The foe was difficult to defeat and they has to bring Superman back to defeat him. I hope that the Justice League miniseries will do well on HBO Max.
