Decided to rewatch all films (will be the first time in ages, that I'll watch the prequels), before the release of the new one, starting with this one.

38 years later, It's still a good movie. Though, given Lucas going back and adding scenes and new effects, I'm surprised he never bothered to fix some of the old ones. Take the creature in the garbage compactor. It's clearly a stop motion puppet, when it's eye pops up out of the water for a moment. It's weird that Lucas never tried to fix that one, while adding in (unconvincing) CGI animals to some of the Tatooine scenes.

I still have a problem with the medal giving ceremony. They're still on that moon and have had time to repair R2. You'd think they'd wanna leave ASAP, before more imperial troops shows up.

    Good point.

And poor Chewbacca doesn't even get awarded...

This episode was hopeless. It never got even remotely exciting.

When I was a kid in 1977, this was an awesome movie. Now, it just looks dated. Except for the Greedo scene,
I think that ALL of George Lucas' changes in the Special Additions were fine.

I just rewatched this one recently and had forgotten about that, it's hilarous as he's standing there next to Han and Luke, like "Hey...I'm here...not getting a metal...just looking furry."

Before watching the new film in theaters, I went back and watched the original trilogy. I skipped out on the prequels, mostly because I haven't bought them on DVD and didn't feel like spending the money to get them right now. Anyways, this film still holds up all these years later. Yes, the special effects are inferior to what all of the newer films were able to show, but what I think is great about "Star Wars" has little to do with the special effects. R2-D2 and C-3P0's comedic relief, Darth Vader being an epic villain, wise Obi Wan teaching Luke the ways of the force, Han and Leia's instant chemistry... I could go on and on, but to sum everything up, this film contains practically everything that I love about "Star Wars."
