Even though I love the show, it's quite noticeable that it comes from a different era of TV. Not because of the effects, but rather the often over-the-top acting.

Smallville had Toyman as the main baddie for the episode. Along with cameos by other DC supervillains. Here they have two original, one-shot, baddies. Really makes a statement about how far SV got us.

To be fair, L&C also had Toyman and John Corben (the latter one used to be Lucy's boyfriend).

Both were one-shots. SV got Toyman for three episodes. Metallo for four episodes (including his cameo in the previous episode and one before he became a cyborg).

Nice to see Clark having to train her.

The offscreen heat vision lessons. Flashback to Kara and Conner.

A good moment from Clark. He's so used to ripping his shirt open and run in to help, that it has become a basic instinct for him.

Martha and Jonathan can drop everything instantly and show up in Metropolis, to help Lois with a costume.

Clark really plays up the condescension to the truck driver.

                          No cape?!?

Today they would've kept using Dr. Hamilton, instead of using Dr. Klein.

The Kents were awesome Kents, like the ones that came after.

Think they were also the last two, who were born before Superman's debut in 1938, to play the roles.
