What did you think? Apparently no one set up a Loved It/Hated It thread while I'm up here in Vancouver.

One of the best flash eps so far. The theme of family was very strong in this one, but not in a cheesy way. however it was a little melodramatic.
on the West family side, you had the drama of Iris's mother coming back and wanting to see her, even though Joe West told her that she was dead.
On Captain Cold's side, you had his abusive father threatening the life of his sister if he didn't do as his father wanted.
It was also a good way to see the differences in how the heroes and villains were raised, with the kind of life they had. This ep was also good for the Crisco/Golden Gilder shippers I guess... although I don't like this relationship. -
Initial thoughts: this particular episode was more of a 'feels' episode, I believe the term would be. I am not someone who shows emotions easily, but I was easily tearing up during the scene between Joe and Iris. I can sympathize with Snart and his feelings towards his father, and that he was the 'protector' of his little family. Also, can we just marvel at the irony that Michael Ironside has played Peyton List's dad on two CW shows now, the first being Smallville where she was Lucy Lane?
I like that Cisco is not being as territorial with the whole 'naming things' bit, instead saying stuff like "we should hang out more". Jay and Caitlin's awkward dance is interesting, if only because I get the feeling he's completely uninterested in her and I worry how that'll play out. (Whispers loudly: go for the available Flash!) Sorry, coughing fit. Where was I? Oh, yes...
Dr. Stein being the sole container of the Firestorm matrix is having a debilitating effect on him, but they're moving this storyline along decently enough, at least with the limited time they have to utilize it.
Oh, look, Earth 2 visitor is Dr. Wells! Now, I haven't watched the teaser for next week, so this might have been covered in that.... but I'm looking forward to seeing how they determine if he's Wells or Eobard. Personally, I doubt he's Eobard or even the Earth 2 version of the Reverse-Flash. I also doubt he's Zoom simply because that would be twisted in the fashion of Arrow and, sadly, twisted storytelling has gone out the window....
Anyways, give it a 9 because it was an awesome episode, but not a jaw-dropper.Comment

I hoped it would be an improvement on last week's (which was an improvement on the premiere) but I think it was just about on par with "Flash of two worlds".
What worked for me:
- IRONSIDE! He was awesome as usual. Pity he got killed off, because I was hoping they would bring him back down the line.
- Captain Cold and Lisa getting a bit more character depth.
- Barry being more upbeat this week.
- The West family scenes. The actress who plays Iris' mom didn't impress me particulary, but Jesse Martin knocked it out of the park, especially when he told Iris the truth.
- Patty begins to grow on me. Shantel looks quite pretty with her hair down.
- Cisco mocking Stein.
- The very last scene. Hopefully Cavanagh will get more screentime, starting next week.
What didn't work for me:
- The basement breach. Ok, so the breaches were supposedly created during the last 6 months. How come no one at Star Labs noticed that thing? Barry never went down to the basement this entire time?
- Last week they mentioned the importance of shutting the portals. Now they opened one, stabilized it and just left it like that?
- The episode looked to be abruptly edited at times. From the teaser to some scenes that were shown in the promos and which never made the air.
- The overload on romantic plotlines. I am ok with giving Barry a new love interest (provided it doesn't lead to the same issues that we have on Arrow with Olicity), but Cisco-Lisa and Jay-Caitlin? Too much.
- Not enough Jay.Last edited by costas22; 10-21-2015, 03:02 AM.Comment

What I enjoyed:
- Cisco and Golden Glider having some moments was neat and layered
- Cisco telling Jay that they need to hang more was funny
- Wentworth Miller's performance was very strong this week
- Seeing Ironside, I really like that actor
- I'm not sure if the science behind Cold freezing the lasers holds up to scrutiny, but it was a really neat visual
What I didn't like:
- The Joe-Iris storyline is just awful. Melodramatic soap stuff and it felt completely out of nowhere.
- Caitlin's character is awful right now. She has no direction at all.
- The slow development of the Firestorm arc. How many times are we going to force that poor man to faint?
- The Star Trek science of the speed canon that they then don't use for any reason and leave unattended
- The obligatory bad guy moment where he kills his own henchman to prove a point
- The horribly awkward and forced Patty and Barry moments
- So you bring in Michael Ironside and then immediately kill him off? Why? Did he tell you he wouldn't come back for a second episode? He's a talented veteran actor with clout in the fan community. You didn't need to kill him off.
This won't be one I need to watch again.Comment

I loved it. I felt the Patty/Barry stuff was kinda forced but not unexpected. I didn't think Caitlin would be so ga-ga over Jay but, again, expected.
Wentworth Miller gets more enjoyable the more I see him. The look at the end when last spoke to Barry was wonderfully chilling and Awesome!
Wells teaser at the end made me audibly groan, but maybe he has a way to cross worlds. That could be valuable. Unfortunately, he will not reveal himself to the team (at all) and they won't find out till the midseason finale. Cause that's how they do this stuff.

Good episode but seems they tried to open too many plots. I didn't understand the opening with Iris jumping and it's relationship to the rest of the episode. Maybe it was just to show how close Barry and Iris are as friends now.
There were certainly a lot of love interests getting a spark in this one. Cisco and Lisa, Barry and Patty and Jay and Caitlin. There was also the disgust between Joe and his ex. This brought Joe and Barry to be closer especially when Joe turned to Barry about the ex and the fear he had of losing Iris because he kept it from her. Definitely now a much stronger father/son relationship. Joe calling Barry son and Barry calling Joe dad didn't seem as forced as it was in previous episodes. Is that why Henry left so quickly? He realized that Barry was in a good family and had developed well. Was he afraid that his being there will damage all of these relationships? Joe's over worrying about a person's safety, mostly of Iris, was coming back to catch him, though.
Although there were teases put out before the episode ran that we would see why and how Leonard and Lisa were criminals the actual fleshing out of Louis was really scary as a dysfunctional family. Really felt for Lisa even before knowing that Daddy put a bomb in her. She seemed so vulnerable. Maybe her and Cisco getting together might be good for both characters. Cisco, though, did seem a little subdued in this episode, there was not as much of the light stuff, although there was plenty of the need for Cisco the excellent engineer.
As was mentioned by others earlier, Barry is seen as a good judge of character in thinking there was some good in Leonard. You could feel that Leonard really didn't want to physically hurt Barry. His thoughts of Lisa and then when his father shot Barry is what must have culminated in him killing his father. Wentworth Miller is a good actor. Does like coming across as a bad guy but even from his introduction in Season 1 there was something about him that said he wasn't as evil as he tried to portray. He did live up to his promise to Barry about no innocents being killed and tried to keep Barry away from harm. He hated what his father had done to Barry but his concern for his sister overrode any intention to act on it. When Barry came back as Flash to stop them and indicated Lisa was safe his desire to rid the family of its evil led him to kill his father but also let him be disarmed by Barry and arrested without much resistance. The final scene of him and Barry was just to assert that he still has the criminal element in him. Ironside did a great job of being an evil person. It was really a little terrifying seeing him kill and also be willing to kill his own daughter. He came across as just a user of people no matter who they were as long as it got him what he wanted.
A big plot might be Joe and Ms. West. Where is that going? Why did she come back now? How is it going to play out and how will it affect the relationships between Joe, Iris, and Barry? There seemed to be one benefit to the news, Joe was getting closer to Iris and we could see more of the father/daughter relationship and this maybe will open Iris up as a character for the rest of the episodes. It begs the question, though, are there other secrets?
I agree with those who are wondering about leaving the portal open as they call it a day. It's an invitation for a "bad" guy to come in. Maybe they couldn't shut "the door" as Jay described it earlier. But if you can build it can't you secure it?
Maybe that was the whole direction of this episode, leading up to many future events both good and bad.Last edited by Tomc-Bost; 10-21-2015, 12:35 PM.Comment

Right now, I'm thinking more Jay = better show. Unfortunately, this episode didn't have as much Jay. Always nice to see Ironside, though. Too bad he won't be back.
The Barry/Patty stuff was forced, but it hasn't offended me yet. It's just too obvious. Is it possible for two people to develop an attraction toward one another gradually without one person resembling a bumbling fool right out the gate? I guess that doesn't happen in real life.
The stuff about Iris's mother was a dumb card to play, but for what it's worth, I thought the actors did the best they could with it. Iris seemed oddly less offended by Joe lying about her mom's death than she was by him not letting her in on the Flash secret. I guess I'm thankful they didn't make it even more dramatic than it already was.
I was glad to be reminded that Iris does have a job as a reporter, but I felt a bit cheated to jump right in with her being shot at. It would be nice to see her actually doing the investigating. You know, I don't think being shot at is routine for a reporter investigating real estate fraud (or whatever it was).
I always like seeing Captain Cold. The dynamic between Barry and Snart is an interesting choice the show has made, and this was a decent plot. I hope we see better episodes dealing with Barry's optimism regarding Snart and chances at redemption. The Cisco/Lisa stuff is cute as long as they don't actually have a romance. Keep it at an interesting level of tension, and we're good.
I strongly dislike this idea of Caitlin falling for Jay. Give me a break.Comment

I'm loving this season's Flash and Arrow, i love it. I have only one problem with it, all the deaths at the end if last season is forgiven. Iris cheering and no mention of Eddie, Caitlin rushing to Jay just months after Ronnie's death. Only this i don't like. But i love all the other things in this new season.Comment
