Technical question: Isn't your "mom's niece" - aka daughter of your mom's brother or sister - simply "your cousin"?

Indeed she is, DJD.

But my Mom has seen a lot more of her over the years, so I don't really think of "my cousin" as such. I have transported my mother interstate as she doesn't like flying - and am acting as her chaperone in the absence of my late Dad.
