Eddie was presuming that future could be altered as if he didn't exist his descendants couldn't. He didn't know for sure, nothing we were shown shows definite proof of that.

I'm fairly sure this idea that time could be altered was expressed around him. He had to have known. Barry and the group knew.

I absolutely loved the finale. So much happened that I had to watch 2 more times to make sure that I didn't miss anything. I agreed with Barrry's decision not to save his mother. Even future Flash signaled him not to. Can't Waite for season 2.
