And the quick closeup shots of her, she looks almost scared she's going to get hit. Yes, it's a nitpick, but my brain tends to notice such details.

Which is why it is forcing me to comment on what most are saying about the Felicity scene.

Yes, it was a bone for the "Olicity" fans.

No, it wasn't a retcon. As already stated, Felicity graduated in 09'. A year is plenty of time for her to get hired at QC. No, it isn't strange for her to be delivering something to a exec. office. A new hire would lend oneself to being seen as little more than a "gofer" by some. So, it's entirely within the realm of possibility that Felicity was asked or more likely told to drop some paperwork off.

Some have said that Oliver has stated that the first time they met was in her office.

He actually didn't. In the conversation, Oliver tells Felicity during the time he was missing, he was never able to trust anyone fully. So, after a while he started to seeing everyone as either a "threat" or a "target". He tells her that when he stepped into her office, it was the first time he saw a person as a "person", not a "threat or "target". He then says, that there was "just something about her". So, no retcon.

It was also suggested that after Felicity's "cute" comment, Oliver was emotionally manipulating Felicity for info. Not necessarily, nothing was shown to suggest that Oliver knew her name. Years later when he was looking for help to get information off that bullet riddled laptop, he was told Felicity Smoak was the person to go to. When he saw who Felicity Smoak was, it could have just as easily been a pleasant surprise to him, remembering the woman who without knowing it, made him smile during a very trying time in his life.

Oh, just for the record. It would have been cool to see Walter in the flashback.
Good points, I admit. Now, you are right that it wouldn't be strange for her to delivering something to an exec's office.... during business hours. It wasn't business hours. After-hours aspects would be handled by actual assistants to the executives, which we know QC has the budget for. So either Felicity was brown-nosing (which isn't a factor they had in her character prior to this season, if ever) or it was just a way to shove her into the show. They could easily have shown her running up to Walter or some nameless exec with a tablet outside QC before Oliver saw Thea. That'd be an opening as well, and make more sense.

Exactly. A new hire being run as a gopher isn't out of the question and even getting sent on such an errand shortly after business hours would be plausible but then she'd either run into the exec who was still working or run into a locked office and have to return (it's really not that common to leave offices unlocked in a company). As for the brown-nosing, it doesn't fit her character at all seeing her reaction when Walter first sought her help to uncover Moira's secrects. It was as if she'd never been to the CEO's office.

She wouldn't necessarily have run into anyone at all.

They're called secured facilities. Once you're authorized, you can go into specific areas with a scan-able ID badge. Like what Felicity was wearing. Especially if you work in security or IT. How do I know this? I'm glad you asked. I've worked in such secure facilities before. She didn't scan her badge and walked right in you say? That's because she wouldn't have been able to reach that floor unless she had authorization. She would have to had scanned her badge on the elevator or in the stairwell.

As to why she was there so late, she probably was part of a overnight IT team tasked with system changes or upgrades. Personnel might sometimes be assigned this task for a week or two overnight, as not to interfere with day to day operations. And guess who would probably be given the crappy overnight shifts. You guessed it, the ones with the least amount of seniority. And depending on how hands on a CEO was, he or she might want to be kept abreast of the progress of such a project. Which would explain why she was dropping paperwork off.

So, like I said, a bone for the "Olicity" fans, but not a ridiculous scene.

I mean the scene with Diggle and his brother wasn't anymore necessary than Felicity's, but nobody is commenting on that one...

I wish Moira would appear in the flashbacks. I miss her.

I've worked for a few high security companies and am currently employeed in one, of those companies only 1 did the IT specialist have free reign to go anywhere she wanted whenever she wanted and that was a small company of 25 employees and the IT specialist was the boss' secretary. Every other company IT might be able to get in the secretaries office but the CEO's office is off limits unless they receive special limited time access (usually accompanied as well), any written reports (such as what Felicity carried in) are dropped off on the secretary's desk. But I'll admit, different companies also means different operating procedures.

Let's assume that your reasoning makes the Felicity scene plausible then you're incorrect about Felicity being retconned. In season 1 her reaction when Walter called her into his office was that of somebody that never left the IT basement and was absolutely scared for her job because for some unknown reason she was being called into the CEO's office which wouldn't have been her reaction if she had security clearance and continually had to do things up on the CEO's floor.

I still don't buy the plausibility though. A company with so many secrets such as Robert's aide in Malcolm's Undertaking to destroy the Glades and Moira's secretive salvaging of the Queen's Gambit doesn't sound like a company that would give IT specialists free reign at all hours of the day to snoop into files and find things like Robert's confession that a non IT specialist like Oliver had no problems finding.

As for Diggle's scene, I'm sure I mentioned it feeling out of place as well although it was much more organic and fitting than Felicity's.
