  • Is Harrison Wells...?

Maybe I was reading way too much into the episode, but considering we've never seen the lady from Harrison Wells' past, and he and Hartley seemed awfully close, is it possible the two of them had a not-just-professional relationship?

(In other words, could Harrison Wells be gay?)

Not joking around; I'm actually curious about this.

I think maybe Wells was seen as a replacement parent to Hartley. He worked for Wells right after his parents disowned him so Wells was seen as a replacement father figure. That is just my take on it the episodes aren't over yet.

When Hartley and Wells were talking in the office when Cisco was hired, I totally got that vibe as well.

I didn't even think that Hartley was gay until they mentioned him coming out to his parents. And the whole vibe of the episode (at least the interaction between he and wells) had a "jilted lover" thing to it.

No, KS, you were not alone in that thinking? Maybe Wells is like Capt. Jack Harkness???

I also thought there was weird vibe between them, but after watching the whole episode I think Hartley hates Wells because he saw him as a father figure and a mentor, and thought Wells really cared about him, but Wells was just using him to help build the particle accelerator and had no problems getting rid of him the second he became an obstacle for his plans. Considering how hard is for Hartley to get along with someone and how egocentric he is, Wells casual disregard towards him after thinking he was his "favorite" and "his special guy" had to hurt a lot, and that is also the reason he went after the Flash to get his revenge on Wells, right now Barry is Wells special guy, so what better way to harm his old mentor than taking away from him the person he cares about the most?

That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if Harrison and Hartley were actually a couple, the episode definitly gave the vibe.

You make a good point about the accepting father figure and the betrayal in firing him. I can see how an intense hatred could grow from that and a jealously for anyone who is in Wells' good graces.

Here's a slightly unrelated sidenote: When someone is fired, they are escorted from the building, right?? How was Rathaway's hearing destroyed by the PA explosion if he was (assumedly) not in the building. From what I gather from the show and his bio on a DC database, he's not a Meta-human. He augments his hearing with special devices (that we saw when he blew up the cell in the pipeline).

Am I wrong? Did I miss something? I guess I have to watch it again. Poor, poor me. (snicker, snicker)

He might have been lying about being affected by the PA explosion... just so he could keep the ear things in, so he could escape later.

Or, he might not have had to have been there to be affected. Look at Mark and Clyde Mardon, or even Barry... neither of them were at the STAR Labs location when it happened.

Wells said to Barry "The Prodigal child has return".
Kind of sounds like a father figure

Barry, the Weather guy - they also weren't in the building during the explosion. It sent waves out over the city. So maybe within a certain perimeter of the explosion, you could be affected?

But I think he was saying his hearing was ruined somehow by the explosion. And it wasn't clear but I got the impression he was more a danger from his technical expertise, a sort of anti-Cisco.

I've seen several people say that Hartley was acting a lot like a jilted lover, which he kind of was.

I can certainly see it having turned out that way, though I don't think the show will go there, as it were.

The explosion went out for quite a few miles (Barry being affected, the other metas, etc.). As long as Hartley was inside the blast radius he could have had his hearing destroyed by the explosion, much as many of the other metas did.

I don't think HW is gay. Even without knowing beforehand that PP was gay, the viewer could immediately guess that from the "always wanted to be scooped up by a man dressed from head to toe in leather" line. Leather being a classic sexual fantasy thing (never interested me though). Great line nevertheless and AM carried it with aplomb.

PP maybe looked at Wells in a sexual way, it's hinted that he's actually the lover of Captain Singh, so he's definitely into older men (pun not intended).
I think HW is too interested in his own agenda, work, and thesis though to be interested in sex. It's been said that he had a female partner, but tbh I think that's just a smokescreen to give him an alibi (a past) should anyone ever ask questions about where he came from etc.

Besides, he shares a lot of time with Caitlin Snow, and DP's got the kind of beauty and smouldering sexuality that would turn many men (she looks as if candyfloss wouldn't melt in her mouth but get her between the sheets and she's a commanding tiger, (that's commanding NOT dominant, big difference).

But you see, that's my point. He's not a Meta, at least he's not in the comics. I figured that, like Captain Cold, he's more of a technical wizard than a superpowered wizard. So I'm just wondering exactly where he was to be "that" affected by the blast.

It's a moot point anyway and no use arguing over.

I meant that " Danielle Panabaker's got the kind of ..........." in a metaphorical sense, rather than knowing from experience She would however make a great Killer Frost, can hardly wait to see her in THAT role.
