It looks like the writers are going with an arrow version of the classic Batman story, daughter of the demon. That would explain the red herrings and the mountain top fight.

Had to research that storyline real quick.... if that is the route they're going, that will prove rather..... interesting.

Yeah, I think Ra's found Sara an unacceptable mate for his daughter Nyssa, and had her killed. He then arranged a series of red herrings to test Oliver's reactions. The whole thing was designed to judge Oliver's worthiness to work for Ra's. In the Batman story Ra's was looking for a worthy successor, and mate for his daughter, not sure they will take it that far.

The final red herring being Thea I would think. Can anyone ever see Black Canary and Arrow willingly working together if Thea is actually Sara's killer? Oliver is willing to kill or be killed by Ra's Al Ghul to defend his sister, you think he'll hand Thea over to Laurel? Laurel was having a hard enough time accepting Roy was her sister's killer and that he'd get away with it because he was under the influence of mirakuru.
