So... when exactly did Lionel have a chance to pay someone to take the fall for Lana's murder? He was at the dam when Lex was arrested, and has been missing since. Did he make that call as soon as he saw the explosion?

Indeed. Perhaps if TPTB had've let Lex continue to evolve to the evil monster of canon, MR may have signed a new contract.

I always felt that LV just wasn't quite right for the role of Kara.
